Tittus, It doesn't make any difference what Webster or the other secular dictionaries say about Christian Faith. It doesn't make any difference what a Taoist, Buddhist, a Judaist, or even a Jew says. This is the problem with Protestantism. Protestants have taken Christianity and molded it into what "they" decided it should be. This is the Traditional definition of "heresy". If you want the truth, then go to Catholic teachings. Go to what the true Church teaches. The Catholic Church is the authority on what Jesus Christ has brought to Earth. I realize this goes agains the grain for Protestants who think they know it all, but it is the truth. If you want the truth, then you go go the Catholic Church. You will not find it any other way. The Eastern religions have something going for them. After all if there wasn't some truth in what they say, they would have ceased to exist a long time ago. However, none of it compares to the teachings of the Catholic Church. If Protestants really wanted the truth, they could have it for the asking. But they would rather wallow in the mud of Protestantism. Are you going to wait until after death to find the truth? Cataracts IF the Catholic Church is the sole arbiter of truth then why has it changed so in its history? Why are the masses no longer in Latin? Why were they in the first place? Why do they not sell indulgences any more? Come on, the eucharist really really turns into the body of Christ? Why did the Catholic Church fight the revelation of the Good News with the printing of the Bible? With that said I see no problem with Catholics changing or believing what they so desire. It is faith in Jesus Christ that matters, that is all. Tittus, The Catholic Teachings have not changed throughout history. What we have now is the same Church that Jesus founded 2000 years ago. We have 33 Doctors of the Church. These are men and women that have explained Revelation is such a way as to allow the light of God to shine brighter than ever. These people have expanded our beliefs. They have not changed them. The Protestants have no such thing. Their whole reason for existing is to go against the Catholic Church. They haven't brought in anything new. They have just corrupted what was already there. All the encyclicals, reports, papers of any description are all written in Latin. The reason for this is because Latin doesn't change from year to year. It is a very good language for writing in because it is very difficult to manipulate the Latin language into something it is not. English on the other hand is very easily manipulated. Just listen to the average Protestant preacher. He'll mangle the English language to come up with definitions that are absurd. With all this, the Catholic Mass is said in English. Our Church can do this if it wants to. They are an independant body and they have the right to use English in the Mass if they want to. Protestants never gives up on "the selling of indulgences". This problem existed 500 years ago and they are still harping on it. It's the Protestant excuse for existance of Protestantism. No matter how bad the selling of indulgences were it in no way justifies the heresis of the original Protestant preachers. If the selling of indulgences was a bull calf loose in a field, the Protestants would be a herd of 1000 full grown bulls running over the coutryside smashing everything in its path. There is no excuse for Protestantism. Never was, never will be. The Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. As a Catholic you should know this. However, you don't believe this. Therefore, you as a Catholic, are a heretic. The Catholic's fighting against publishing a Bible is an old Protestant excuse for hating Catholics. If it wasn't for Catholics, there would be no Bible. We are the ones that put it together. We carefully saved over the Centuries before there was ever a printing press. We saw to it that Bibles were produced en mass after the invention of the printing press. The Protestant accusation of the Catholic Church not putting out the Bible where ever it was possible is ludicrous. Why is it that the Protestants have removed 7 books of the Old Testament? They changed the Bible to suit themselves and then acutally turned history on it's head and said that the Catholic's "added" seven books that were not there originally. Jesus was approached by one of His Apostles about a man preaching in Jesus' name and yet he was not a part of their group. Jesus said to let the man go. If he's not against us then he is for us. The Protestants are like that man preaching in Jesus' name, but not a member of the group of Apostles. At least this individual under question was supporting Jesus. Protestants are different because they attack the very Church Jesus founded. They change the very things that Jesus taught. Therefore, Protestants are not "for" us. They are against us. They are like a poison introduced into the water supply. You claim that the all important thing is for us all to have faith in Jesus. I say you don't have any faith at all. Not in Jesus or in the Revelations that He brought to us. I don't care what the outside world calls "us". Protestants are not Christian. If they were they would be Catholic. Cataracts

many support things that God hates? I will agree with your myopia when the Teddy Kennedys of this country stand up for the word and not the world. Your message is lost for all the clutter of the world. This is exactly what I have been saying and why there are so few of you in mass. Most Catholics are just like most Protestants, faith in name only and not in action.
For all of your banter, you really do not know anything about the scriptures do you. There are no different works in post Christ New Testament between the two books. The differences occur in the inter-testament books. Those books have nothing, NOTHING to say about the church. Now if you want to continue this discussion, then drop the doctrine and pick up the book. Are you afraid that your faith will be challenged by the Word?
By the way, that is not my response that you attacked. It was gibran's.
You still did not acknowledge that I am using Catholic sources to counter your myopia.

By the way, that is not my response that you attacked. It was gibran's. You still did not acknowledge that I am using Catholic sources to counter your myopia. Tittus, Sorry about the name mix-up. I'll try to do better next time. The Ted Kennedy's of the world are not looked up to as typical Catholics. There are those of us that do not even look upon them as Catholics. I have heard Ted Kennedy laugh at some of the main teachings of the Catholic Church. His only title could be heretic. A heretic is one that claims to be Catholic and goes against Catholic beliefs. This is the reason I called you a heretic. As far as attendance at Mass, we have four Masses on Sunday and one Mass on Saturday night. There are usually 800 to 1000 people at every Mass. Our weekly collection is anywhere from$16,000 to $20,000. I have no idea what you are saying when you quote that "Mass attendance is down". Attendance has been like this for years. Sounds like another Protestant data error. I have no way of gaging the Faith of Catholics that attend our Church. Maybe the Protestants have some way of doing this, but I don't. You are hitting me with Protestant words and definitions in your second paragraph. "There are no different works in post Christ New Testament between the two books". I truly have no idea what you are talking about with this sentance. It doesn't make any sense. What is an "Intertestament Book". This is not a phrase I have ever read in Catholic literature. It must be a Protestant invention. And, by the way Tittus, The Doctrine is the Book. The Book, as you casually call the Bible, is part of Catholic Tradition. It always has been and always will be. Don't tell me to drop the Doctrine. You have quit the Catholic Chruch and are now heading for Far-Eastern Mysticism. You are unquestionably heading down a blind alley. You don't know what Catholic sources are. If you did, you would be quoting them to put me in my place. If you knew your Catholic sources, you would be Catholic. Cataracts

Happy New Year. May God grant us both the "peace" to help just one soul this new year to find Christ!
I agree with your assessment of those in politics. I will speak for what I know of a friend of my father. I have known this man since he ran for his first State office back in 1974. This man is an ordained preacher and has always place God at the center of his actions. John Ashcroft is a man of deep faith that was shunt for his faith.
I have modified my prayers of the years but I still do not know how to pray to end this band-aide science of abortion. From what I have gathered over the years, we are not practicing abortion as openly as they did between 1856 and 1889. Supposedly, it was the most practiced procedure per capital in the Eastern states.
What angers me are the two edges of the sword. One, abortion is the band-aide for as Existentialist Krisnamurti said back in 1985 concerning our society: "It is no measure of health to be adjusted to a profoundly sick society. "
Two: God created us sexual beings, there are many many teachings in the Catholic/Protestant and Hebrew bible concerning this.
Most religious leaders teach the higher way, a way that many of devote faith cannot achieve. But in teaching abstinence only, we deny our sexual desires. To ignore those means that we permit those weak moments which lead to pregnancies and STDS. To preach abstinence only while having our indiscretions splashed all over the headlines (pedophile priest, whore mongering preachers, and love triangles in every congregation and perish) only strengthens the resolve of the agnostic and atheistic.
How do we acknowledge that few people can achieve the higher plain, teach safe sex, and do away with the band-aide of abortion?
Friend, this abortion genocide is beginning to consume me. The debate is not as simple as abortion or not. The debate is how to acknowledge that God made us sexual beings and blessed us with this great gift and to find a "realistic and viable" means of birth control.
I was a witness to the abortion of an 11-week fetus during graduate school years ago. They stuck an endoscope into the womb as they performed the procedure. That "mass of tissue" jumped in fear and shock as those cold forceps grasped its tiny leg. The American peopel and the world have grown to believe a lie and are proud of it. Just recently JAMA had an article that stated that a fetus as young as 12 weeks can feel pain. Has that study been splashed over the media?
Sorry for the rant!
You must belong to a large city perish. Most small town and rural perishes around the nation are dying. Enjoy the company and the worship, it is rarity today.

Tittus, I have heard a reliable figure of 47,000,000 abortions since 1973. It is too shocking to even talk about. Communist China has at least 300,000,000 abortions since ?. India is closing the gap with over 200,000,000 abortions. Russia legalized abortions in 1955. God know how many abortions were committed there. Western Europe probably has 5 times the abortions that the USA has. Where will it end? Catholic teachings say that God will use another people to punish a sinful nation. To set them straight so to speak. At the moment we are confronted with a very severe and widespread Muslim problem. Will God use the Muslims to set the West straight? Maybe! Our parish is only mid-size in the diocese. A few miles from us is another parish with over 3500 families. 4000 families is not unusual. I saw the movie Apocrifata. Fascinating movie. Since being on a number of forums I have spoken with quite a few people that have condemned Cortez and his attack on the Aztecs. My answer to them is that Cortez was always the hero. He fought against an overwelming evil force and was successful. He fought for God, King, and Country. If you get a chance to see the movie, I would very much like to hear your opinion. Cataracts

With school starting next week, it may be a few months before we hit the theaters again. It will probably be out on DVD by then.
Speaking of statistics that boggle the imagination. It seems that the THC did a piece on one of the Spanish battles with the South American Indians. Something like 50,000 warriors were killed in one battle against 180 conquistadors. Is this part of the movie?

It seems that the THC did a piece on one of the Spanish battles with the South American Indians. Something like 50,000 warriors were killed in one battle against 180 conquistadors. Is this part of the movie? The last scene of the movie was showing some Aztec warriors chasing a man from another tribe. Their purpose was to kill him. The Indian that was running away came to a beach where he stopped and stared out at the sea. The Indians chasing him also stopped and were staring out to sea. The camera then panned to a number of longboats filled with armored men rowing ashore. This undoubtably had to be Cortez. The above deathtoll of Indians to a small number of Spanish soldiers is what I understand to be true. After fighting off the Muslims for 700 years the Spanish became the most elite fighting force on Earth at that time. At this time they had just run off the Muslims from Spain. Cataracts.

Posted by FightingFalcon on Dec 15, 2006, 1:36pm Quote:All of our unbelievers, to whatever school they belong, and however great may be their differences, agree in the denial of the supernatural (not Tittus). They also deny the miraculous. Not true at all. Take me for example - I firmly believe in God. I also strongly deny anything miraculous, mystic or omnipotent about Him. Then you deny Jesus Christ?Do you deny Muhammed?

Fighting Falcon, By your post I think you have said that you believe in God but refuse to believe in any of His miracles. Is this correct?
"Do you deny Muhammed?"---------Deny him what? That he really heard voices and maybe even saw some apparitions?
If God made the universe out of nothing what's a few miracles? If God made all creatures that are visible and invisible, what's a few miracles?
The only person that saw Muhammad's apparitions and heard the voices that he heard was himself. There is no supporting proof of what he saw and heard. Do we know if he was listening to God or the devil? We don't know. It is a fact that he disagreed with Catholic dogma. Revelations that we know are true and Muhammad said are false. Why would God contradict Himself? Truth does not contradict truth.

Whether God exists or not is inconsequential to me because I reject all mysticism. My question was asked because I find it interesting that Christians are so quick to accept one mystical story while rejecting the other. What proof do you have that your mystical story is correct? A 2,000 year old book? Well Islam has a 1,400 year old book that proves their mystical stories. No supporting proof? He had tons of followers who were with him and claimed to have see him go to Heaven from the Dome of the Rock. Do we know if Christ was talking to God or the Devil? Just because he had followers what does that change? Revelations that we know are true? How do we know that these are true? Because a 2,000 year old book says so? A book written in an age when Jupiter cast lighting bolts, Mithras watched over soldiers, Mars intervened in battles, Neptune destroyed ships, etc. Truth does not contradict Truth - but what exactly is the Truth? Because Christ came earlier that means his story is true and Muhammed's is false? What if it were the other way around? Ultimately only one of them can be "correct", which means that either 2 billion people are wrong or 1.4 billion people are wrong.

Good Grief!!!! I'm not a skeptic, and don't plan on being one in the near future. Do you believe in anything? Do you think you are safe in not believing anything? Why do you question 2000 years of Christianity? Do you know something better than I do? If you do, let me know. I read Ayn Rand 35 years ago. He fooled me then, but he won't ever fool me again.

Yes, I believe in something - I believe in the Morality of Life. Christianity belongs with the Morality of Death. I believe in the productive achievement of man, rational self-interest and that man is a end in himself and not an end to others. Religion believes in Statism, Communism and undeserved love.
Simply because I do not believe in your god does not mean that I believe in nothing.
Why do I question 2000 years of Christianity? As if time had anything to do with Truth? Men believed for millenia that the earth was the center of the universe. Who was Copernicus to prove them wrong?
BTW - Ayn Rand is a female. I'm sure you read her works....
Nor can you be fooled by her. Her philosophy is one of complete Reason and nothing more. No mysticism, no miracles, no leaps of faith, etc. A is A and nothing else. Nor does she demand your loyalty and promise eternal damnation if you don't agree. Only a fool could be fooled by Reason and Rationality...

It doesn't make any difference whether he is male or female, the ideology is the same. In a nutshell it's this: God is dead or has never lived. Man is God" Man is everything. He is the alpha and the omega. He is what the world circles around. He is it!!!!! Of course this is all nonsense. Only a young, passionate, and intelligent person that is completely foolish would believe anything this female says. Morality comes from God and only from God. If it was left up to man to make his own morality, it would change every five years. Christianity is what has brought life to this planet, especially Europe and the Americas. Christianity has brought education, architecture, literature, and every other good thing that we claim to have. How is it that a person can throw all this away and claim Christianity is the "morality of death". Communism is the very antithesis of Christianity. Stalin's Communistic state claimed only one great enemy: The Catholic Church!!! There is only one God. If you don't believe in Him then you don't believe in anything. Maybe the devil. Does he fill you with wisdom? The reason I can speak of Ayn Rand as I do is that at one time I thought her writings were fantastic. I was very young and very foolish. Cataracts
