Is there a relationship between God, Natural Rights, and the principles of Democracy?

Natural Human Rights are a gift from God to human beings. And Democracy provides the best system for which to protect them.

If natural rights are predicated upon God, and democracy is founded upon natural rights, is democracy possible without God?

Assuming god exists of course, there is nothing in the Bible that would suggest god's support for a democracy. His actions suggest that he would favor dictatorships more than anything else.

If natural rights are predicated upon God, and democracy is founded upon natural rights, is democracy possible without God? It is my belief that humans and rights are both created by God and meant to work in perfect harmony. But to answer your question more directly while assuming God does not exist, you must also believe that human rights do not exist. They are complementary and made in perfect union.

Assuming god exists of course, there is nothing in the Bible that would suggest god's support for a democracy. His actions suggest that he would favor dictatorships more than anything else. Why would He favor dictatorships? Because ancient writers liked to write epics of their political and social enemies being engulfed in flames and fury? If God created human rights, why would he support a system that ignores them? I believe that God supports an open and free society because it's the way he deals with his children. You have free will to steal, cheat, murder, and so on and so on. But is there not an eventual punishment for it? If God were totalitarian in nature, wouldn't it be impossible to act against his will? Obviously it is not impossible.

I agree with your answer. Without the "authority" of God, human and natural rights are simply another in a long line of unregulated beliefs postulated by fallible men. Therefore, it becomes no more and no less important than any other idea regarding the behavior and treatment of people subject to the whims of whomever happens to hold power at that particular moment in time. The mere existence of God further regulates all men into equal status, regardless of what physical means and power one may have. "Equality before the law" is an extension of "Equality before God".
