At what point can it be determined that a life has no value?
Shall the strong defend the weak, or eliminate the weaK to remove themselves from the burden of care?
The handicapped, even those who are politically left of center, are watching closely.
If, as the atheist believes, there is no soul, then the value of life is reduced to the dead-net sum of its productivity.
If judges are to determine that the lives of the helpless are worthless, what does the future hold for any who are infirm, or are stricken with a catastrophic illness, or are simply to old and frail to work and contribute to society?
This case has implications far beyond the immediate.

I still can't believe we as a country are allowing this woman to die off slowly. It's a sad time in our history.

The Dems would also be out picketing on her behalf if she were a serial cop-killer who'd drowned her children in battery acid. I guess the helpless are fair game in this brave new world.

I'm in agreement about the left's complete hypocracy on this issue.
Unlike many though this is a issue I havn't cared to follow and frankly I still don't see how this is a national issue that should involve the president.
Terri can not make this choice on her own, and the law in most states is that the next of kin (her husband) than would make that choice for her.
Many wild stories have come out with allegations about Michael Schivio(sp?). I find them hard to believe though because of how long this process has been going on. According to her husband she cannot be rehabilitated and will never recover from her current condition. After years with this he has decided to honor a wish she supposidly told him way back when.

"Every member of Terri Schiavo's family wants her kept alive -- except the one person who has a vested interest in her death, her husband. Her death will allow him to marry the woman he has been living with, and having children by, for years." - Thomas Sowell

I don't often agree with Pat Buchanan but his take on this subject is worth a read: One wonders if our young, so many of them cheated of a knowledge of history in schools they are forced to attend, are aware of how closely our elites approximate, in belief and argument, the elites of Weimar and Nazi Germany in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1920, Dr. Alfred Hoche, professor of psychiatry at the University of Freiburg, and Karl Binding, a law professor at Leipzig, authored "The Permission to Destroy Life Unworthy of Life." They urged a national policy of assisted suicide for those "empty shells of human beings" – the terminally ill and mentally retarded, and those with brain damage and psychiatric conditions. In October 1933, The New York Times quoted the Nazi minister of justice as saying that ridding Germany of such poor creatures would make it "possible for physicians to end the tortures of incurable patients, upon requests, in the interests of true humanity." "If we desire a certain type of civilization," said George Bernard Shaw, "we must exterminate the sort of people who do not fit in." Full article here: www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43443

I am probably a slightly more devout Christian than most people but what shocks me is how absolutelyagainst god this is!! Jesus went among the lepers and the infirm. He didn't go around killing them, he went around and healed them. God is ALWAYS on the side of life. I don't care what the state of her brain is, God has said let there be life in this woman and that is whatis going on. She is being murdered and it is being sponsored by the state of Florida!! I hope when she dies that they bar Michale Schiavo from attending the service!!

The test case to come in the courts should address the custody question. It is a good Republican issue, after the left has cheapen the value of marriage. Based on that facts of this matter. Terri's parents should have had standing with the court in seeking custody of Terri from Michael.

I am convinced that's the reason the left wants Terri dead - they can get back at those nasty Christians who defeated their enlightened candidate in the '00 and '04 elections, and do it during Holy week. They want her dead bacause we want her to live.

"They want her dead bacause we want her to live."
-That may sound crazy to some, but after growing accustomed to how the left operates, that makes perfect sense.

The Democrats will now have control of both houses of Congress. What will they do? Will the amount of abortions increase? Will euthanasia go on the rise? Will Terri Shiavo be just another name in the flood of people that don't deserve to live? It will be a time to test the quality of our Christianity.
