I'm guessing I'm the first person to see this movie 'cause I'm the first person posting about it...
BTW, don't even think about reading this post if you haven't seen the movie. I plan to spoil everything....
First off, lemme say that this movie was fucking awesome. My favorite Star Wars movie of all time is still Return of the Jedi but this movie was probably on par with Episode V. The only thing that this movie doesn't have is the "re-watchability" that Episodes 4-6 have. I could watch Jedi about 10 times in a row and not get bored.
OK positives and negatives:
Positives:
- First and foremost, the battles. They were amazing, especially the battle on Kashhyyk (bah, I can't spell that shit...it was the Wookie homeland).
- Introducing the new characters. Did everyone see Grand Moff Tarkin at the end of the movie? Cause that was really sweet. So was introducing Captain Antilles, who Vader chokes to death in Ep 4. O, and Chewbacca was there.
- No gay shit. Pretty self-explanitory. No Jar-Jar, no Anakin and Amidala cuddling in bed, etc. I was very happy to see that Jar Jar was only in the movie for about two seconds. I friggen hate him.
- The lightsaber duels. Count Dooku vs. Anakin, Obi-Won vs. Greivous, Emperor vs. Windu, Emperor vs. Yoda and of course, Anakin vs. Obi Won. All of them were really good although there was some negatives that I'll get to later.
- The guy who played the Emperor. By far the best actor in the movie - he was great.
- Vader coming to life. When they put his mask on and he breathed for the first time....chills literally went down my spine. Fucking sweet.
- The Emperor facing off against four Jedi. Damn....I'm sorry but I creamed my pants that scene. He just owned up all the Jedi and fucing twirled through the air. My mouth fell on the ground at that point....
- When the really tall Jedi with crazy hair from the Council dies. He was running across that walkway and all of a sudden his clone troops stop following him. They point all their guns at him and his expression is just like, "O shit...I'm done." When they blow him away I was like damn.....sweet.
Negatives:
- Obi-Won vs. Greivous. OK, they built up Greivous a whole lot and I thought he would be a really good with a lightsaber 'cause he had killed four Jedi. But guess what? He sucks with the lightsaber. He had four at one time and got fucking owned by Obi-Won. Why build up Greivous so much and then just easily kill him off? Pissed me off.....
- Darth Vader at the end. OK what the fuck was up with Vader whining about the death of Padme? He fucking choked her and nearly killed her. Now of all a sudden this really evil dude is crying about his wife? Gimme a break....
- The Jedi dying. Darth Vader is supposed to hunt down and kill all the Jedi. That's what the preview made it look like too - but no. Anakin killed some little babies and Separatists. He didn't kill a single Jedi. Bah, that sucked.
- They didn't make the connection between 3 and 4 good enough. Lucas needs to now make 3.5 (if thats possible...) and cover the formation of the Rebel Alliance. Where was Mon Mothma? She was a Senator and the leader against the Empire. I love how they introduced Tarkin - how about anyone else? General Veers and Captain Piett (my two favorite characters...)? Admiral Ozzel? General Dodonna?
- Was anyone else really confused during the first space battle? I had no idea what the fuck was going on...
That's all I can think of now, although I'm sure I'll edit this about 10 times as I think of things. Overall, it was a really good entertaining movie. I know Lucas wanted to make this a movie about Anakin and his transformation, but he had to cover so much that it really didn't work that well. One second Anakin is about to arrest the Emperor and the next second he is killing Mace Windu. I understand about how he needed the Emperor alive and all that but I dunno....I guess they should have made him more evil to begin with. The transformation just takes like 20 seconds....
And again, Lucas should have spent more time filling in the space between 2 and 4. The end of 3 and the beginning of 4 is just a huge break. Still tho, the introduction of the TIE fighters and Star Destroyers was cool. BTW, why were there X-Wings in the movie? The Rebels made those years after Episode 3....I dunno, maybe I'm just being a geek....
Either way, everyone should see it. Even if you never saw a single Star Wars movie (not sure how that happened....), go see it. It's very entertaining even if you don't know what's going on. And for those of us (*cough* me *cough*) who are obsessed with Star Wars, there are tons of little things that Lucas does to make us happye, e.g. putting Tarkin in the movie. I'm sorry, I just love that character too much. Although where was DS-61-2! My favorite character in the entire Star Wars universe!
I'll give $5 to anyone who can tell me who DS-61-2 is without using Google....
