It was alright I guess.
The duel between Obi Won and Vader wasn't nearly as good as in episode 3.
It seems like a decent build up into the next two movies so I'll reserve further comment until I've seen them all.

Thats because Obi Wan knew he would be much more powerful in a spiritual form then a physical.Which is where the speaking from the dead comes into play from the end of episode 3 (yoda and obi wan speaking of contacting Qui Gon Jin).
The Empire Strikes Back is more of a dark part of the timeline because of the Empires finding of the Hoth base.

I have to say I did enjoy them:)
I think seeing 1-3 made 4-6 better though. In 4-6 they go a lot into the explination of what the force is and how you can use it. It also makes you laugh and cringe at the times that Leia sp? is kissing Luke.
I really like how the whole series encompases the life of Anakin Skywalker for a little kid to his death.
A few questions though.
In the end of ROTJ, Luke sees the spirit of Yoda and Obi Won, than next to them appears the spirit of Anakin (the Heydan Christensen character next to them). This obviously because I have a redone DVD feature of the film, but in the original did he appear to Luke at the end?
What caused Vader to die in the end? He had his mechanical hand cut off, was still doing alright, but once he dumps the emperor over the side he all of a sudden is very weak. Was there ever a explination for that?
The empire just collapses after the fall of the emporer and Vader? Wouldn't you expect some general to make a grab for power to become a new emperor?
In the end it's just a movie and I can live without the answers, but since this series has such a devot following I thought there would be some answers.
Good films though.

Well.....I am one of the devout followers so I'll fill you in . No, I'm not a Star Wars nerd. I don't dress up in costumes, I don't talk about Star Wars with my friends, or any of that gay crap. I just loved playing the video games and so I learned a lot about Star Wars from there. Now that that's outta the way 1) In the original ROTJ, the actor who played Darth Vader appeared to Luke. I haven't seen the re-done version yet (I own it but just haven't watched it yet) but I was really pissed off to hear that they re-did Vader with Christiansen. I hate Hayden Christiansen and the less he's in the movie, the better. 2) Vader cannot live outside of his armor - it is the only thing keeping him alive. Had Luke not removed his mask, he might have died anyway. He had his hand cut off and was electrocuted by the Emperor. Chances are....he was dying anyway. Taking off the mask just kinda did him in. In case you missed Vader getting electrocuted, watch the movie again. When he throws Palpatine down the shaft thing, he gets electrocuted hard-core. 3) The empire doesn't collapse. Star Wars does not end with ROTJ - it is really just the beginning. There are like thirty books out there that chronicle the rest of the universe. The empire is still very strong after ROTJ and it would take years for the New Republic to capture Coruscant and maintain some sort of control over the galaxy. The empire, ultimately, loses because it has no leadership. Under the leadership of Grand Admiral Thrawn (my favorite character, although he isn't in the movies), the Empire nearly succeeds in turning the tide against the Rebellion. But there is plenty more to the Star Wars universe than just the movies. After ROTJ, you've got Leia and Han's kids, Luke founding a Jedi Academy on Yavin, the formation of the New Republic, clones of the Emperor, the Sun Crusher (a weapon more powerful than the Death Star) and the Battle of the Bilbringi shipyards, which was even bigger than the Battle of Endor. Even that is still just the tip of the iceburg. I've only read like three of the books after ROTJ. I'm probably going to read the books about Admiral Thrawn next, cause he's just so cool. There's a long time between ROTJ and Admiral Thrawn (20-30 years probably) but from what I've heard those books are really, really good. Glad you enjoyed the movie BB. That's just the beginning

Yeah I have also read some of the books that take place after ROTJ.Although the main force of the Empire was destroyed the Republic still ended up having to fight and capture the Imperial capital of Coruscant. There are also large remnents of the Empire which go around fighting the Republic.
FF is right, I think it was the electricution that killed Vader, and add the cut off hand and drain of energy after Luke beat the sh*t out of him.
One thing though, amongst us SW geeks there is a huge debate on whether it was Luke or Anakin who was the chosin one, and would bring balance to the force.
I personally think it was Luke, because when Vader and Palpatine were under control the Dark Side was more powerful, and Luke evened it out by Killing the strongest of the Sith. What do you guys think?

Personally I'd say that no one brings balance to the force. Balance means that there is stability with (I would assume) two equal powers at work.
Vader makes the Dark Side extremely powerful while Luke makes the Light Side extremely powerful. There is no balance when one side is much stronger than the other.
I kinda think that the prophecy never comes true.

I kinda think that the prophecy never comes true. If balance in it's use in the movies is meant to mean equal representation, than wouldn't that have been just before Anakin turned to the dark side? The Republic was at war while Darth Sideous played both sides and seemed to find aprentices left and right. In the movie they also mentioned the choosen one as someone who would destroy the sith. The idea seems to be sole selfless rule by the Jedi

Do not post again until you watch all three. Got that? ROTJ is my favorite because of the battle at the end. As should be pretty obvious, I'm a huge fan of the Rebellion When will you learn James? The Empire is eternal. The dark side lives in all of us.

O Chris - when will you learn that tyranny is evil and REBELLION is the answer I used to like the Empire (they are still cooler but they're evil) but then I realized that they were evil bastards. Now I love the Rebels

"Evil" is only a point of view.

From what I understand, the "Force" is neutral. It can be used for good or evil. At first it's easier to use it for evil but over time it demands more in return for evil acts. The opposite is the case for good use, it becomes easier over time to use it for good. (I've learned this playing the Star Wars RPG here and we had this exact discussion about a week ago.) Also, Anakin does return to speak with Luke as he redemed himself by killing Palpatine and giving his life to do so. By the way, both of Vaders hands are bionic as were his legs. Remember Anakin looses his hand in episode 2. All of this excedes my normal level of Geekology.
By the way, any of you see "Serenity"? Just saw it and want to see the series "Firefly" now.

Anyone played KOTOR on any gaming consoles? Its a great RPG that takes place 4000 years before the Empire during the Sith Wars. Its really great because you can play as either the dark side, light side, or nuetral side based on your decisions. Also whichever side you choose effects your loooks, being the darkside makes you pale and scarred.
