Anyone else see this movie yet?
I've been waiting for so long for this movie to come out. Ever since I heard about it I've been waiting anxiously. A movie about a guy who wears a Guy Fawkes mask trying to blow up Parliament in an attempt to bring down a fascist British government? Sounds like this movie was made specifically for me....
Even the movie's caption "People shouldn't be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of thier people" sounds like something that I would say.
I went to see it last night and it was amazing. It isn't as violent a film as the previews would make you believe but it's still really good. One of the biggest complaints is that the main character uses terrorism to achieve his goals. Although I'm opposed to the death penalty, I still thought that V was justified in using "terrorism" to destroy a tyrannical government. After all, it's the same thing that our Founding Fathers did.
The only complaint I have is that they didn't do enough to portray the British government as being fascist. Clearly the elements of a police state are there but I dunno...maybe they could have done more to make the audience really hate them. But then again....it wasn't supposed to be a black-and-white movie.
Many American conservatives will probably get annoyed at seemingly anti-American and anti-Bush comments. However, the book was written over 20 years ago and in no way relates to Iraq and the War on Terror. In fact, the book was originally meant to be an anti-Thatcher piece.
All in all a great movie with a great story. My political beliefs are the exact same as V and he's probably my favorite character from any movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone.
