I just got finished reading the paperback edition. I'm curious to see what Mario will say as I review a book by one of his favorite TV persona's. To sum it up I didn't think that much of the book and don't think it would do that much good for anybody else here to read it because we are all aready pretty involved "culture warriors" in our own right. The below is a c and p of the review I posted on THC.
A book review for the christmas shopper looking for that last minute gift. Although I'm not sure who this book would be perfect for... but more on that later.
I generally avoid books by pundits like O'Reilly. In fact the only similar book I've ever read was one by Michael Savage 3 years ago. In this case I saw that culture warrior had just come out on paperback and my curiousity got the better of me so I decided to give it a try.
The book was what anybody should expect it to be, and that is Mr. O'Reilly's view on the current struggle in America today by those who embrace traditionalist values and those that push the secular-progressive (SP) agenda. O'Reilly gives his views in a very simple manner and explains why he believes that it is important for traditionalist values to continue to win out. In his view, they must win out in order for America to keep it's standing as a moral nation and as a nation capable of greater noble deeds. O'Reilly believes that this view has and will continue to easily win out as long as people are made aware of the SP's agenda, as well as their attempts to force their ideology on a public that does not support it and has been a proven failure in current and past examples.
Overall I did not enjoy the book as much as some other conservatives here might. The tone throughout the book was self-serveing and I already have the values and the ability to challenge the SP agenda when I see it so nothing in the book forced me to reflect and think about anything I didn't already know.
For a Christmas gift, the book would do for a person of a conservative, or liberal view, but who generally stays away from politics. For the rest I don't believe it will be that useful.
