Great program. Both of the beginning episodes have been outstanding, with only a few cosmetic errors.
Tonight was on MIDWAY,my own ships namesake battle. Great interviews, especially the one pilot that got hits on both KAGA and HIRYU.
Great stuff,and Great men!

The Battle of Midway was a great U.S. Navy victory in WWII and fought by great Americans against all odds.

I thought the second episode was excellent. I've read alot about Midway, but had never heard the story about the shot down Enterprise aircrew who were fished out of the water by the Japs, interogated, and then tied up, weighted down, and dumped over the side. Think about that the next time somebody starts whinning about Hiroshima.

An excellent work that focus' on the Japanese side. I highly reccomend it!

Think about that the next time somebody starts whinning about Hiroshima. That was the first I'd heard about that incident as well, surprised me and I thought I had heard most of the anecdotal stories about Midway. Never, NEVER EVER feel shame about nuking Hiroshima or Nagasaki. One alternative to that would have cost the Allies 1,000,000 dead and wounded - the invasion of the Japanese home islands. Another would have caused the war to last many months or even 1 to 2 years longer with even more Japanese casualties than an invasion - an airtight blockade of the islands eventually resulting in famine.

I never have, and never will. It may well have saved the lives of several of my family members.

Since it was such an unexpected, and devestating defeat for them, It would be interesting to hear the Japanese view. I'll have to check it out.
I have always been floored by the courage of the American torpedo plane crews. Imagine what it takes to roll in, and press home your attack, after watching all the planes in front of you shot down in flames.
"Jack Waldron was last seen diving toward an enemy carrier, standing straight up in his cockpit, which had been turned into a blazing furnace by exploding gasoline."

I've been to Japan several times and I'm glad today Japan and the U.S.A. are peacefully aligned.

The U.S.S. Remey DD-688 earned 10 WWII Battle Stars with only one man lost overboard---not combat related
