Some of you who were stationed in Germany remember the small guest houses and during the lunch many construction workers gathered there for their meal. Time to time I use to go to these place and enjoyed good goulash soup, broetchen, and glass of red wine. Most had good beer. So here is a recipe for workman goulash soup.
1. Large onion 2. Pound of more pork or beef, choice is yours. Venison meat could also used after you get the venison flavor out of it. 3. Beef broth or hot water. 4. Sweet paprika 5. marjoram 6. salt 7. pepper 8. 3-4 medium potatoes, pealed and cut into large squares. 9. flour 10. oil 11. butter or margarine. 12 couple cloves of mashed garlic in garlic powder.
Saute onions in oil until they are golden brown. Add cubes pork or beef. Cook until meant is brown, than add sweet paprika and stir for 2-3 minutes. Then slowly add hot beef broth or water. and simmer. Add mashed garlic, salt, pepper and marjoram. Cook until meat is almost soft. Meanwhile, in the skillet, butter or margarine add 3-4 table spoons of flour. Fry the mixture until flour is golden brown. Then bring soup to high heat and slowly add fried flour into the soup until soup is medium thick. Then turn heat to low. Cook for half hour or more until flour is totally dissolved. Meanwhile cook cut potatoes until their are soft. Drain watter from potatoes. When soup is done, add cooked potatoes.
Comment. If you want soup done faster, then instead of meat use sausage, or hot dogs.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to try this out on Mrs Sailor on some night when it's my turn to cook.

We were stationed in Germany for almost 20 years. We love the European food. We took lot of recepies home. Just plain hamburger and hot dogs will not do it anymore.
