Desert Eagles are too much work. But they are purty things. That said, I agree with you, I wouldn't own one unless as a gift - no risk, I don't know anyone who gives gifts that expensive.

If it is for home defense, go for a revolver. Carry and auto, but keep the revolver and a 12 gage with rabbit ears in the house. No tension on the springs and always ready.

I love my Glock 22s, carried them on patrol. My bed has a .357 next to it (revolver) in my truck a .38 (revolver) next to my computer one of my Glocks under my girls bed a single shot 12 gage with a hammer
