'May Day' ‘May Day’ Immigration Protests!

Dulles, VA -- On May 1 scores of illegal immigrants and their facilitators will stage economic boycotts to complain about congressional efforts to enact meaningful immigration reform. Protest organizers insist that they "will settle for nothing less than full amnesty" for the estimated 11 million individuals that illegally reside and work in the United States.
"Some people have called the recent protests against new measures to strengthen our borders and increase national security by combating illegal immigration the modern-day equivalent of the 1960's-era civil rights movement, but far too many in this movement don't want unity, they want autonomy and special treatment," said Jon Dougherty, Freedom Alliance Immigration Policy Analyst. "If anything, the planned protests and boycotts on May Day should be more of a 'May Day' call for assistance from the vast majority of Americans who have been pleading with Congress to get serious about illegal immigration."
Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance agreed, "Politicians in Washington would have us believe that these folks are cuddly and loveable refugees who just want a fair shake at the American Dream. But their so-called 'May Day' actions show that they are little more than irresponsible opportunists and professional agitators who encourage children to play hooky; turn their backs on their employers; inflict damage on the economy; place added strain on law enforcement officers; cause problems for commuters; and hijack our National Anthem."
"Meantime on Monday, 150 million responsible Americans and legal-immigrant hopefuls, will go to work, send their children to school, obey the law, pursue the American dream legally and contribute to the well being of the economy and society. These individuals are working to keep America the greatest nation on earth while others are selfishly exploiting it for personal gain. They are demanding rights and conditions they are not even allowed by the Constitution in their own country."
Dougherty added, "And how does this so-called ‘Star-Spangled Banner,’ entitled "Nuestro Himno" (Our Anthem) promote unity? How does this help solve the debate over illegal immigration," noted Dougherty, "because that's what the issue is about – illegal immigration, not whether Americans do or do not want to close off immigration altogether, which most don't.
"If ethnic Hispanic artists wanted to show unity and support for their country of choice, the United States, why aren't they singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' in English? And why are producers of this recording seeking Hispanic artists from outside the United States, namely Puerto Rico, Mexico and Spain?" Dougherty said.
"If the protester's goal is to be accepted as equals in America, they should first encourage legal immigration, and second, encourage all who emigrate to the United States to become Americans, not hyphenated Americans," he concluded.
