Emergency Operator, how may I assist you?
Hello 911 - I need to report a fire...
Where's the fire, sir?
It's in my house. My home is burning. Help!
Is it a big fire or a little fire, Sir?
It's big enough now and getting bigger, please help
One moment, Sir. I'll connect you to the fire department.
(phone rings...and rings...and rings...)
Hello, Fire Department here; you light 'em, we fight 'em.
Please help, My there's a fire in my house.
A fire in your house is not a bad thing. Many houses have fires, Sir, we need them to provide the warmth and comfort that other forms of energy will not do.
NO, you don't understand! The fire is out of control. My house is burning. I need your help!
One moment, Sir. I'll connect you to the Chief.
(Phone rings...and rings...and rings)
Hello, Fire Chief here! Got a burning issue?
(Background music plays Hail to the Chief)
YES GODDAMMIT! My house is on fire!!! It's burning to the ground!!! Can you send a truck please???
Well, Sir, we share your concern about the uncontrolled fire. In fact, it's a national problem and we're going to address it.
First, we're going to add more firefighters and high-tech firefighting equipment. Until we can train the firefighters we need, we will send 6000 volunteer firefighters to regain control, however these firefighters won't actually fight any fires, they'll just take over some admin duties until the new fully-trained firefighters come on line.
We will make it harder for any new fires to start by putting controls on the process of firestarting. You see, if we make it harder for fires to start, there will eventually be fewer fires except, of course, for the fires that we need because domestic heat sources won't do the job. Think of it as a "Guest Combustibles" program.
Chief, what about the FIRE I have right now??? MY house is burning NOW?
Well, you have to understand, that there are way too many fires for us to actually extinguish them. You see, it's just not realistic to throw water on fires that are already burning. After all, we simply don't have the resources. Please understand that it's really in everybody's best interest, to allow some fires to burn.
Thank you so much for calling!
