I put the word "expert" in quotes to denote sarcasm. In reality they're anything BUT! In real terms, the word "expert" is, in and of itself, an oxymoron.
Do you ever hear the term, "Bill, the software development and marketing EXPERT, Gates?"
Do you ever hear the term, "Don, the real estate development and marketing EXPERT, Trump?"
Fuck NO!
Why not?
Because the term "expert" is reserved for pansies who want adoration instead of "results."
Here's where the confusion lies (IMO). In school, people are taught to NOT MAKE MISTAKES. In school, you get the biggest rewards for making the fewest mistakes (or not making any) as judged by the high and mighty "teach." (who is someone that was given "credibility" without actually having achieved anything)
"Good boy Johnny" and "Good girl Sally, you colored INSIDE all the lines. You two get a happy face!"
That shit begins in kindergarten and extends through post graduate work.
The problem is that it teaches "group think!" It's not all together different than indoctrination."
Someone becomes an "EXPERT" because they learned to color INSIDE all the mental lines given them by the institution, they wrote a book or two that nobody read, they were given their credentials and tenure and now they're labeled a fucking "EXPERT."
On the other hand, people who are high achievers (like Gates and Trump and Walt Disney) have LOST FORTUNES in mistakes! They have taken HUGE risks, made incredible fortunes and then lost them by fucking things up and then made them back again on the next venture (or the one after that, or the one after that, or the one after that, or the one after that - they NEVER QUIT).
I remember hearing Michael Jordan say on some Nike ad (or something like that - and these numbers aren't exactly right) that he had been trusted with the game-winning shot over 900 times and he'd missed over 700 of them. He fucked up 700 out of 900 attempts. He only got it right 200 times in 900 attempts!
Would someone with Michael Jordan's credentials be considered an "EXPERT" in academia? How could he possibly be an expert when he fails more often than he succeeds? 200/900ths is clearly an "F-" in "academic speak."
How could Bill Gates be considered an "expert" when his software programs are always BEHIND schedule and always have so many fucking problems? Why name something Windows 95 when it won't come out until NEARLY 1996? He finally got smart and stopped naming his products by the year. Now it's "XP" and "Vista." lol Even Detroit is smart enough to come out with next year's model and not LAST YEAR's model.
How could Trump be an expert when he loses BILLIONS in cost overruns and delays in his developments?
As Yogi Berra said, "Strike out only seven of ten times and you too will be on your way to the Hall of Fame."
Therein lies the difference between the mental sets of academia and the real world. In academia, you get rewarded for coloring INSIDE the lines and NOT making mistakes (as judged by some pin-head who never actually achieved anything themselves). In the real world, you get rewarded for stepping OUTSIDE the box. When you step outside the box and are willing to RISK making mistakes, you can WIN BIG. You can also get your ass handed to you. YOU WILL, more than likely, fuck things up MORE OFTEN than you get them right and you will never get an A+ on anything.
Remember the Fosbury Flop? The "experts" in high jump used to run at the bar and jump over. Then Fosbury came along and did it exactly backward. He set some new world records and now EVERYONE does it that way.
People become "experts" by learning to color inside all the lines and by avoiding mistakes. They don't question what it is they THINK THEY KNOW because they're "experts." They got an A+ on their term-paper.
People become BILLIONAIRES by thinking OUTSIDE the box, questioning EVERYTHING they think, learning to manage risk and being willing to make mistakes.
The difference is night and day.
Capitalism would be NOWHERE if everyone wanted to become an "expert."
People in academia who accept the label "Expert" are generally pin-heads who have minds muddled with "group-think" and have learned to NEVER make a mistake. That mind-set is an achievement killer because they don't want to RISK making a mistake.
I make mistakes every single fucking day. Getting an A+ or a happy face on my report card is quite literally MEANINGLESS!
It may seem like a paradox to the untrained eye, but it's not:
The more mistakes you make, the more successful you can become.
"Experts" are trained to NOT make mistakes. That's their weakness and leads to their ultimate failure to achieve.
