Sorry for my long term absence, I have a baseball question for you all. I've been left handed all my life but have always been limited to playing first base, outfield, or pitching because of this. Pitching has not entirely worked out for me, and being 5'8 180lbs, it would be ideal for me to play second base.
So my question: how possible is it for someone to learn how to throw with their opposite arm? I've heard stories of guys doing this in the past and as I'm searching for a new team and my size limits me from power positions, it would be ideal for me to make the change so I can play second. Additionally, my left handed bat would continue to be an advantage in a world stocked with right handers.
I am in very good playing shape now but my size limits me and doesn't allow for many home runs. All my life my game has been singles, doubles, triples, and many stolen bases as I've been blessed with excellent speed. What are your thoughts on this possibility?

Damn, Matt, your acting as though your a real little guy. I got two inches on you and I weigh about the same as you.
As for the hitting, I wouldn't be all that concerned with it, a hit is a hit and IMO someone who can reliably get a single or double is more valuable than some big brute swinging for the fences everytime he gets up to bat.
As for your question though, sorry I can't offer much advice on that one. I'm thinking it would take some time though, at least a month of solid training before any sort of natural feel began to show.
It's good to hear from you though. How are things going for you?

I'm doing well Zach, because of financial issues I had to transfer to a less expensive college but as it turns out I am a lot more comfortable here than I was in the previous one. Couple that with working a little more often and saving pretty good money, things are looking up. How are things with you? I only consider myself a smaller player, this isn't a negative thing it's just the way its been the whole time I've played. I've almost always batted first or second and stole a lot of bases. I'm actually going to get out to the field with some friends tomorrow and practice my right handed throwing for the second time. The first time I tried it the other day it actually went much better than I thought it would, as most of my throws from second to first were on target with nice velocity. Looks like my experiment is starting well

One would have to train one's self. A friend of mine taught himself to use his other hand after a bad accident had him in a cast for a long time.
