Wow, I was really surprised by this move today by the Panthers to cut a guy who really was a big part of bringing winning football back to Carolina. He lead the Panthers to 75 wins in 8 years as a starter and lead the team to their only SB apperance where they lost on a last second field goal to the NE Patriots. Recently he did struggle though. Following a steller regular season in 2008 Delhomme had a catostrophic divisional playoff game against the Arizona Cardnals where he threw 5 INTs which lead Arizona to rout the Panthers at a time they were favored to make another trip to the SB. Following that game Jake had a sporatic and mostly poor year in 2009 where he threw 18 INTs and just 9 TDs before being injured for the season. The team rallied behind back up QB Matt Moore and wound up winning their last 4 games to finish 8-8 on the season. After that there was talk that there would have to be an open competition now when Jake got back, but today's news is just amazing. In a little over a year this guy has gone from leading a SB contender to being cut in favor of a guy who finished on a hot streak, but otherwise looked very plain most other times he played. This is a big gamble by the Panthers and my gut right now is telling me it's a bad call on their part. -DD www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-free-agency/09000d5d816c2371/Panthers-release-Delhomme
