I’m RavenHawk (no I’m Spartacus). My real first name is Chris. I got on the THC board after Israel invaded Lebanon, but I’ve been on other boards long before that. They seem to die out and I move on. Let’s hope this one stays around for a long time :-) This time, I’ve gotten onto three. Not sure how that’s going to work out?? I guess I’m padding by bets. I’m married, in my early fifties, no kids. We live in Albuquerque, NM. The wife has spent the last 7 years getting her bachelors for SLP (Speech Language Pathology) and now the next 20 months will be spent out-of-town getting the Masters. I have been pretty much the sole provider and it has been rough. Now is not a good time to be doing this in this economy and leadership. But we’ll make it somehow. It should be rewarding. I work for the *evil* Military-Industrial Complex as a Contractor to DOE at Sandia Labs (R&D). And I’m very proud to do so. I’m kind a like BASF – I don’t kill the enemy, I help kill the enemy better ;-) I’ll agree that we could do away with the DOE but we vitally need the labs. We’ve been here long before DOE was established. We do more than just maintain the nuclear arsenal; we work in alternate energies (solar, wind, geo thermal, fusion – we have an ample supply of all), nuclear medicine, robotics, space, law enforcement, cyber security, and many others. I support several of these (mostly nuclear and cyber). Think of Eureka and you’ve got this place :-)
I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps Reserve. Got in after Beirut and mustered out before Desert Shield. I never fired a shot in anger. So even though I served, I don’t consider myself a vet, just someone who played weekend warrior for a time. Now my brother saw all the action, he’s been from the Mog to Fallujah and everywhere in between.
If you haven’t noticed, I usually give as good as I get. I’m a firm believer in karma and when I see it, I’m all over it. I love to tell people I told you so, even if noone hears me. That’s why I always have a batch of crow on the back burner simmering and why I am always laughing at Progressives at least in private. On occasion I get mistaken for someone else, but I assure you that I am noone else but myself. I consider myself Conservative or actually I see the Conservative party following my beliefs. As long as it does follow me, then I don’t mind being called that. Some think that being a Conservative is someone who rejects change. But actually, a Conservative is one who makes the good change in an appropriate manner and rejects acting on the knee-jerk reaction. I’m really a fairly social liberal. I think that there are things that this government can do to help the needy. I just don’t think Socialism or Statism is the way to do it. This government was charged to promote the general welfare. That doesn’t mean to get into passing out dole. There are things that this government can do to stimulate this without wastefully throwing money at the problem or seeking totalitarian control which is contrary to the Constitution. And that brings me to me being a fiscal conservative. We need to drastically cut spending, reduce the debt and put in place a Balanced Budget Amendment. Once that is done and we need to raise taxes then, I am willing to hear proposals.
And now to my avatar. I’m sure some are curious. It is an icon that merges everything that I am. The obvious part is the Hawk. I am fiercely behind defending this nation and her ideals and I abhor Socialism in all its flavors. And Socialism or Statism is the greatest internal enemy we face today. I think Islam poses the greatest external threat. That does not mean that I am prejudice against Muslims. I just acknowledge the incompatibility between the two cultures. As we strive to find a bridge, doesn’t mean to let our guard down. The nature of Islam is to conquer passively, not just by the sword, but it uses both in a pincher attack. And it will conquer if we let it. The Raven ties into my interests of fairies (no not the sexual preference reference). I lean toward the free spirited, independent life style. The fairy sitting on the limb of the moon conversing with the universe and sharing the knowledge and the variety and diversity of fairies. I am also a bit into the metaphysical. But not like the groupies that walk around in a Gandalf wizard hat and a Harry Potter wand talking like Capt Kirk. It’s more like being aware of the dark energy that currently has us in a quagmire. We see it most recently from Fukushima to the drought in Somalia and our own Southwest. From Norway to the 38 dying in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. From the collapse of Greece and Portugal to the near collapse of Italy and perhaps France. From the riots in England to the political ineptness of Congress and the Whitehouse. It’s the Curse of Ignorance and Apathy that you hear me speak against from time to time. I am a Christian, but I don’t believe that the past 1700 years of Catholic influence is the only way to interpret scripture. I believe that there is literally (genetically) the blood of Christ flowing through the veins of many out there (I.e. Jesus had issue)
So that’s it in a nutshell. I’m sure I’m missing stuff, but that will come out (I’m sure) in the debates to follow.
