BTW, I believe it is. Just like every single amendment, the authors of said amendments wrote letters and made entries to their personal journals to explain their position on our amendments. These letters and journal entries solidify my position that our Second Amendment is absolute.
That being said, there must be limits. It is not in the best interests of public safety for a private citizen to own battle tanks and howitzers without proper licensing and permission.
Firearm ownership is a right. I agree 100% that firearms do not kill people, people kill people. It is our responsibility as citizens to be trained in basic firearm safety and proper firearm usage. In the days/months/years/decades prior to and preceeding the revolution that gave us our independence from King George III, the citizenry owned firearms and they knew the proper ways to safely use them.
I do not own any firearms. The State of New Jersey makes it too difficult for law abiding citizens to buy firearms. However, many citizens still go through the long and arduous process. I refuse to. If I were a criminal, illegal firearms are abundant and available in New Jersey.
My position on firearms and the Second Amendment is the same as abortion.......if you do not like it, do not participate but stop trying to eliminate the choice for the rest of us.

The 2nd amendment is like all others - Congress will always find ways to slowly erode it's meaning and status.

I'm not sure it is absolute, the First certainly isn't, as it does not extend the right to yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

It states that because we must have a militia- we must be able to protect ourselves from it.... Therefore the the government that controls the militia may not infringe on that right...seems pretty clear to me...
