U.S. Government Used Taxpayer Funds to Buy, Sell Weapons During 'Fast and Furious,' Documents ShowNot only did U.S. officials approve, allow and assist in the sale of more than 2,000 guns to the Sinaloa cartel -- the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared. This disclosure, revealed in documents obtained by Fox News, could undermine the Department of Justice's previous defense that Operation Fast and Furious was a "botched" operation where agents simply "lost track" of weapons as they were transferred from one illegal buyer to another. Instead, it heightens the culpability of the federal government as Mexico, according to sources, has opened two criminal investigations into the operation that flooded their country with illegal weapons. "I've said it before, someone needs to go to prison over this program."

God, I'd love to see that asshole in an orange jumpsuit.

between Fast & Furious and the Solyndra deal there should a few somebodies going to the slams. What cluster fudge Traditions being what they are I'm willing to wager that the next President won't make prosecuting people from the previous administration a top priority. At the first hint that could happen Obama will whip out the Pardon Pen to cover his butt buddy's butts.

Strange, if he gives pardon to his buddies, what will he give to family of the fallen border agent. More likely he will give them the highest award of his administration, The Royal Order of Purple Shaft.

We paid because we tried to get hostages out of Beirut.

We paid because we tried to get hostages out of Beirut. Make all the excuses you want. It was still illegal to sell those weapons to Iran and it was also illegal to give the proceeds of those arms sales to the Contras.

Scandal: New documents reveal the Department of Justice lied to Congress and show how U.S. officials bought guns with tax dollars and then made sure no one stopped their transfer to Mexican drug cartels. The funneling of thousands of American guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels in the operation known as Fast and Furious was not a botched sting operation or the result of bureaucratic incompetence. It was not designed to interdict gun trafficking, but to facilitate it. We now know that it involved not just the use of straw buyers, but also agents of the federal government purchasing weapons with taxpayer money, ordering the licensed dealers to conduct the sales off the books, then calling off surveillance of the gun traffickers and refusing to interdict the transfer of the weapon or arrest the people involved. According to documents obtained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), agent John Dodson was ordered to buy semiautomatic Draco pistols and was provided a letter by ATF group supervisor David Voth authorizing FFLs (federal firearms licensees) to sell Dodson the guns without filling out the required form. This is a current issue where a wrong was done, what the hell does it have to do with an event that happened 30 years ago? My advice, get over it. -DD

New Fast and Furious docs released by White HouseLate Friday, the White House turned over new documents in the Congressional investigation into the ATF "Fast and Furious" gunwalking scandal. The documents show extensive communications between then-ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office Bill Newell - who led Fast and Furious - and then-White House National Security Staffer Kevin O'Reilly. Emails indicate the two also spoke on the phone. Such detailed, direct communications between a local ATF manager in Phoenix and a White House national security staffer has raised interest among Congressional investigators looking into Fast and Furious. Newell has said he and O'Reilly are long time friends. Newly-released White House documents (pdf) www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/WH_F&F_000001-000102_To_Hill.pdfATF agents say that in Fast and Furious, their agency allowed thousands of assault rifles and other weapons to be sold to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels. At least two of the guns turned up at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last December. ATF Manager says he shared Fast and Furious with the White House www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-20083772-10391695.htmlThe email exchanges span a little over a month last summer. They discuss ATF's gun trafficking efforts along the border including the controversial Fast and Furious case, though not by name. The emails to and from O'Reilly indicate more than just a passing interest in the Phoenix office's gun trafficking cases. They do not mention specific tactics such as "letting guns walk." A lawyer for the White House wrote Congressional investigators: "none of the communications between ATF and the White House revealed the investigative law enforcement tactics at issue in your inquiry, let alone any decision to allow guns to 'walk.'" This fiasco is yet another reason to move the U.S. Border Patrol to military service status on the same level as the U.S. Coast Guard. Then we need to set up minefields, concertina wire, solar-powered lighting and machine gun nests/pillboxes along our southern border giving our Border Partolman authorization to use deadly force.
