Not sure how many of you watched the games last night, but what a turnaround.
At one point it looked certain both the Braves and Red Sox would keep from collapsing, especially the Red Sox. They were playing the Orioles who are about the worst team in the league while the Rays were down 7-0 to the Yankees.
Than the most unlikey thing happened. The Rays rallied to come within one run of the Yankees in the 8th inning. Down that one run, with two out in the bottom of the ninth and with Dan Johnson facing a 2-2 count, Johnson hit his first HR since April!!! A solo shot that tied the game and took it to extra innings where the Rays won.
The Red Sox? Up just one run, but still against the O's in the 9th, the Sox gave up the tie on a ground rule double taking it to extra innings where the O's managed to prevail and send the Red Sox home.
Really glad with this, few baseball fans other than me hate both the Yankees and Red Sox as much as I do. I couldn't be happier to see them go home like that and see the anguish on the faces of the fans. Now if the Tigers knock out the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs I'll be even happier.
Back to the Braves, well what can you say, blown save in the bottom of the 9th. Chipper Jones came oh so close to bringing in the game winning run in the 11th, but the Phillies CF made a great play to catch the ball.
Gotta say i feel bad about that one. I know Chipper is probably done, that and Tim Hudson, the one time Athletic who pitched a great game, it would have been nice to see them in the playoffs, but they couldn't hold on and so they are out. Better luck next year.
As for the playoffs, my favorites, as they have been all year to win the whole thing is the Phillies. This team is just soo loaded with talent I just don't see anyone knocking them out, but the Cardnals will do their best I suppose.
