For connoisseurs of wine and beer, spring and summer are fantastic times to be in Germany. From Berlin to the Rhineland, there is a great choice of festivals to attend, depending on whether you prefer to conduct your wine-tasting in one of the small towns along the Mosel or in Rudesheim on the Rhine or at wine festivals in the larger towns like Stuttgart, Hamburg, Mainz, Frankfurt or Aachen. And then there are the almighty giant beer festivals to keep you merry as well. As a traveller, it’s great being in a town when there is a huge festival on as you get to meet a nice cross-section of people. www.travelsignposts.com/Germany/food/german-wine-and-beer-festivals

The wife & I got a little too tipsy at a wine tasting festival in Rudesheim . . . had to call the call the neighbors to watch the boys & we stayed to party late into the night. Our first German hotel with the super-thick comforters & the bathroom down the hall.

I visited many wine fests while in Germany. None of them were bad. Now near Nuernberg is a small vinery which produces exellent red wine.
Last 10 years Virginia is comming with good wines. Some of them are produced by people who use do them in Germany. Some of the Virginia red wines beat French and Italian. If anyone stops in Northern Virginia, stop by the North Mountain winery. They serve some outstading red and apple wine. Owner was station 8 years in Germany and his wife is from Bavaria.
