One of my finest memories of my military service was being at checkpoint Charlie. Check point Charlie consisted nothing more then a guard house, but it meant something for us who served. On one side there was freedom and on the other side there was oppression. Next to the check point Charlie was a museum. Those who visited the museum learn about the post war division and birth of check point Charlie. Museum also showed stories of those who seeked freedom. They risked their lives and everyrthing they had to live free. Many made it, but some did not. They were mostly killed. Rest went to prison. After the unification check point Charlie was taken away. Some way it was sad to see the guard house gone. Only thing I have left is a stone which was beneath the guard house. ____________________________________________________ One man’s heroic determination to fight tyranny with truth While there are hundreds of military museums around the world, Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, or the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, is one of few memorials that expressly document the tyrannical force of dictatorship — in this instance, the Communist cruelty that operated with an iron fist thanks to a methodically conceived Iron Curtain. The museum ranks with far wealthier museums that document the horrors of fascist tyranny, such as the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C www.nationalreview.com/articles/282296/checkpoint-charlie-museum-thor-halvorssen

This is a great museum. Another great museum that illustrates the tyranny of the Iron Curtain is the Terror Haz (House), in Budapest.
