One of the biggest mistakes that Governor Bremer made (other than disbanding the Iraqi Army) was force all Iraqis to hand over their weapons. Naturally the only people who actually turned in their weapons were law-abiding citizens anyway. IMHO, we should let the Iraqi people re-arm themselves and take care of their own secutiry. A lot of them have scores to settle with insurgents and former Ba'athists.

A lot of them have scores to settle with insurgents and former Ba'athists. Well James, the incident in the report had the shopkeeper and family armed with pistols and AKs, both of which were to be turned in under Bremer's order. Lucky for them and unlucky for the insurgents that they did what a lot of Americans (including this one) will do if "gun control" becomes gun confiscation in this country. "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." The terrorists plotting murder were killed by outlaws with illegal weapons. There's a moral point to this somewhere. In cases like this I'll back the "outlaw" every damn time. They done good but need lots more time on the range. Some of the terrorists got away.
