BBC did a piece this morning on some study done by an Arab group that said that 60% of the 22,000 civilians killed in Iraq was at the hands of the Americans. That the terrorist have only accounted for 9%.
The BBC reported (a very leftist leaning bloke) then said, "That does not make since, the terrorist have killed over 300 civilians in the last two weeks alone."
The trouble is that the propaganda machine has created the lies and only time will tell the truth, just like for the young Germans v the post War. Many of the Hitler Youth still have trouble believing the crimes that were done in the name of Hitler. I must admit that I cannot blame them especially when it was the American, British, and Canadian bombers that blew their cities into oblivion.

sixty percent might be too high but seriously what is to be expected? We've got thousands of scared kids over their with machine guns, we're blowing up entire building to kill one sniper. The insurgents are running around dressed as civilians what do you expect?

We had the same thing in Vietnam. I was scared but I did not go around shooting everyone who looked crossed at me, I wanted to, but didn't. We spend thousands and thousands of dollars to train the troops when to shoot and when not too. Every "incidental" shooting with a wrongful death of an indigenous person is investigated. A CNN reported a few months back commented on this. He said that he was amazed at how disciplined the US Marines were because they could hold their fire until a target was in sight. That he has seen both the 3ID and the 1st MEU trooper put themselves in harms way to withhold firing on a civilian. You are correct, when a gunfight does erupt. It often occurs in crowded streets with the "bad guys" using the civilians as shields. You can find more information on the real numbers from. Human Rights Watch. www.iraqbodycount.net/database/"Reported civilian deaths resulting from the US-led military intervention in Iraq as of Wednesday, 20th July 2005" Notice the difference, "US-Led military intervention" not "US killed". A review of columns 5 (Target) & 6 (Weapon) does not state who killed whom. I believe the Goebbels Propaganda machine is alive and well. Yes the US action has killed civilians, but it is not by a 22 year old kid from St. Louis just shooting madly. Hollywood just does not capture what it is to be troop in a hostile environment. I would place 99.9% of all troops up against any civilian in a discipline contest.

I talked to him tonight, and I got the names mixed up. He was in an Nasiyria during the battle there. But he said after watching that thc program on that battle, plus the other things he's seen them cover on Iraq, he was disappointed and the sad efforts they put to showing the real story. Maybe they've improved since he watched them, but I don't know when he'll give them another try.
