Came by this by way of Austin Bay well worth a read. ARMAVIRUMQUE: THE NEW CRITERION'S WEBLOGI have several friends--thoughtful, well-intentioned folks--who believe the United States should never have intervened in Afghanistan, who believe even more staunchly that the United States should never have intervened in Iraq and, moreover, that we should get out forthwith. "We should," they believe, "keep to ourselves. We have no business meddling with the rest of the world. We cannot be the world's constabulary, nor should we aspire to be. It is not in our interest--for it breeds resentment--and it is not in the interest of those we profess to help, since they should be allowed to govern themselves--or not, as the case may be." Whatever the wisdom of the position in the abstract (and I have my doubts about it), the resurgence of international terrorism, fueled by hate and devoted to death, renders it otiose. The recent bombings in London were, as these things go, relatively low in casualties. But they were high in indiscriminateness. The people on those buses and subway cars were as innocent as innocent can be: just folks, moms and dads and children on their way to work or school or play, as uninterested, most of them, in politics or Islam as it is possible to be. And yet those home-grown Islamicists were happy to blow them to bits.

Well, Cameron…
In a very general sense I agree with them. One part of me desires us to become nearly isolationist again. In the notion of a real re-evaluation of our overseas treaties, commitments, obligations, assistance, desires etc… I’m for reigning, or really, like spring cleaning years and years of mounting “stuff” upon “stuff” that has fogged our purpose and our true intent in and of the world.
We are not the world’s keeper, nor policeman, nor beneficiary.
But, when evil knocks at ones door – I’m all about cutting its throat with great prejudice and predisposition – to hell with what pansy ass nations think.

You have an obligation weather you accept it or not. The fact that your little sister is always making faces at you, and getting you both in trouble, while your little brother can't keep his sticky fingers off your stuff, when push comes to shove your still the big brother.

Husky, That may be well intentioned, but unfortunately we have ourselves in a situation where the liberty and security of America's people relies upon our capacity to project overwhelming power abroad politically, economically, and militarily, and to the extent that this is effective, to establish free market democratic states that can willfully co-exist.
