Group calls for violence, destruction of 'American empire' www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/08/26/alqaeda.book/index.html(CNN) -- Laying out its ideology in a broad manifesto, the group al Qaeda in Iraq -- which has been behind many of the worst attacks, beheadings and kidnappings in Iraq -- says the insurgency is in better shape than the United States acknowledges and vows to continue the insurgency and "destroy the American empire." "Every now and then, the schoolboys of the Pentagon and the adolescents of the Black House keep blasting our ears with talks of pure arrogance and conviction saying, 'We will not leave Iraq until we accomplish our mission.' This desperate catchphrase that they keep repeating is used to make the public believe that the mujahedeens are in bad shape, as if they are begging the Americans, saying, 'Please Americans, leave Iraq,' " the group says in an e-book, an extensive document on the Internet. "We vow by the name of God that we are determined to destroy the American empire," it says. The book, filled with calls for violence and hate for all but "true Muslims" -- a group that it says does not include Shiites -- surfaced on an Islamic Web site this week. ===== Interesting that AQ in Iraq does not consider Shia as "true Muslims" in this book, especially as much of their foreign support is coming out of Shia dominated Iran. On a related subject - We've not heard anything out of al-Zarqawi lately. Is he just laying low, is he out of the country, is he occupying a grave (we can hope)?

How I see what's happened.......
Al Qaida has declared war on the US....the 'West', basically because they want the power in the Middle East, and if they can, the world. It's their religious/political conviction that they've been given a task in life to be rulers, make Allah's rule the law of the land.
At the moment, with the coalition forces in Iraq, we're not only drawing the terrorists to the area (hopefully keeping them from killing civilians in our countries), but we do have a situation where the country of Iraq is vulnerable to their take over if we don't stay the course and prevent it.
I wonder that those who are calling for our immediate pull out of Iraq have forgotten totally the bigger picture of al Qaida and it's goals?

Merc,
They're so shortsighted and full of moonbat ideology that they cannot see the the bigger picture.
They are also incapable of recognizing that there is eveil in the world that isn't made in the USA.

Mercedes is so on target here. The world needs to understand how crucial Iraq is now. If we pulled out of Iraq, we are setting the stage for a true Armegeddon, and there will be no place to hide. Knowing how important Iraq is to Al Qaida now, by simply observing the bloodshed, how could anyone in their right mind say that Iraq was no threat to the U.S. or the World after 9/11 is so beyond me. If the Al Qaida did not care about Saddam before 9/11 as some say, there was as much evil behind that "seeming" indifference politically as there is now by the terrorists in Iraq.

At the moment Iraq is the key to AQ's plan to institute the "New Caliphate." If they fail here it will be some time before they will have the organization to make another attempt. If they succeed however, Iraq becomes the "base" from which this fun loving crew can spread Islamist Joy and Happiness throughout the Mid East in greater measure than they have. They will in short order be in a position to bring down the current governments in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. An alliance of sorts with Iran would bring 90% of Gulf crude oil stocks under Islamist control, with Iran able to shut down the Straight of Hormuz cutting off all but the overland links for the rest. I leave it to you to guess what that means for the world economy. The Islamists want to regain control over ALL LANDS once controlled by Islam. This would mean about half of Europe stretching from the Atlantic east to Istanbul and from the Med coast nearly to the latitude of Paris and would include all of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Sicily, southern France, the Balkins and so on... ...and eventually the rest of the world. In those areas that fall under their control, the old rules regarding Infidels would likely be in effect. They are: 1. Convert to Islam and become a 2nd class citizen. 2. Live under Islamic rule as a virtual slave. 3. Learn to live without your head attached to your neck.

I don't want to go down with the ignorant and apathetic.

I don't want to go down with the ignorant and apathetic. We won't be able to Pat, because too many don't want to know the truth. It's too easy to believe that the Islamists think the same way we do, and that if we just "pull out and leave" they will leave us alone. It didn't work for Clinton in Somalia, Reagan in Beirut or anywhere else it's been tried. I'm with you, I'm not going down easily, cheaply or quietly.
