after doiung 5 years as a gunner in the army. Though our sons did not make it home over the holidays, two of our oldest's best friends stopped in for a visit. One is in graduate school in Vermont and had done a two year stint with the Peace Corps in the Sudan. The other had been a 10th Mnt/Ranger in Afghanistan for 15 months, got out for 18 months and is now awaiting the ship date to go into the navy as a combat corpsman. Brice said that he wanted to do something this time to help others and that he wanted to do it with a RECON or SpecFor unit. He is happily married, has a son and his wife is expecting a daughter in April. I was greatly humbled by both young men. Our oldest (Nick, the AC in Fresno at LaMoore NAS) is now speaking of trying to get into a SpecFor training now that he is divorced. I had to worn Brice and Nick, that tall guys make great targets. ;D Brice is as tall as me (6'3") and Nick is 6'-8". Both men are hard as nails and really turn the lady's heads. I joked that my head attracked an rpg, but that a hollow mellon does not explode. Merc, I pray for all our young people in harm's way daily. How is Pat?

I wish them the best! I knew a guy from highschool that wanted to be rambo, he was all muscle no endurance. He didn't make it, but when he came back he lost a hellova lot of weight!

My best wishes to them all, Titus. Pat's doing well, and looking to pick up Cpl (again.... loooong story ). He and I imed each other on yahoo messenger New Year's Eve. Among other things, to prove he's ok and will make it home without a scratch, he rattled off to me how many times and how many ways he's been attacked. And Greg, hoping to get his other knee operated on during the summer, trying to do school with an operation on one knee, when your other one is really bad wasn't very good. He thinks he can make Sgt, btw. Hope he sends that in. Oh, and he found out his unit made a special medal, I forget what it is right now (have to ask him again), but he said this is the first time since Viet Nam that it's been awarded.
