Al Qaeda conspirator says he lied during sentencing

Convicted September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui says he lied on the witness stand about being involved in the plot and wants to withdraw his guilty plea because he now believes he can get a fair trial.

In a motion filed Friday but released Monday, Moussaoui said he testified March 27 he was supposed to hijack a fifth plane on September 11, 2001, and fly it into the White House "even though I knew that was a complete fabrication."

A federal court jury spared the 37-year-old Frenchman the death penalty last Wednesday.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema gave him six life sentences, to run as two consecutive life terms, in the federal supermax prison at Florence, Colorado.

At sentencing, she told Moussaoui: "You do not have a right to appeal your convictions, as was explained to you when you plead guilty" in April 2005. "You waived that right."

She said he could appeal his sentence but added, "I believe it would be an act of futility."

Moussaoui's court-appointed lawyers told the court they filed the motion even though a federal rule "prohibits a defendant from withdrawing a guilty plea after imposition of sentence."

They did so anyway because of their "problematic relationship with Moussaoui" and the fact that new lawyers have yet to be appointed to replace them.

I forget what I was reading but in some book I was reading about jail cells that some countries used to use - they would be small enough so that you couldn't stand straight up or lay down completely.

To me, that's the ultimate punishment. Just think about it for a second. Not enough space to stand up or lay down. I would start beating myself in an attempt to commit suicide.

Most people still wouldn't have the - whatever - to actually carry through.

But, if you want to talk about dedication - Years ago, a Japanese Red Army Team (in a little "Terr-trade-off") shot-up & grenaded the El-Al area of Lod airport. (1) of the Terr's survived & got life in the Isreali prison system. After about 10 years or so, he converted to judiism - but they denied him a briss.

So he did it himself, ;D in his cell - with his teeth.

Actually, he hoped to get the death penalty, that way he would be a martyr and get his 72 virgins and go to paradise. Now, he rots away in isolation with no outside contact (How often do you think his family is going to come from france to visit?) Nothing scares a muslim more than being isolated from other muslims, theirs is not a faith of hope or redemption, no loving God, no forgiveness. In his mind he is absolutely "F"'ed. He has no hope. Imagine going through the rest of your life without hope. That's why when we catch people in this part of the world and tell them they are going to Gitmo, they sing like a bird because they are terrified of going there. I think they'd rather eat pork than go to Gitmo.

Somebody else here made reference to the way the old Soviet Union used to do executions, a bullet to the back of the head.

The KGB at Lefortovo Prison used to place condemned prisoners in small cells with no idea of when the sentence would be carried out. The executioner wouldn't even enter the cell, he would just silently walk up to the cell, prisoner wouldn't even know he was there, stick his pistol in through the door view port and "BAM!" goodby Yuri. Some were kept for weeks, knowing why they were there but with no idea of when the hammer would fall.

Works for me for this asswipe.
