What it all comes down to is a premise by some that the general population is not trustworthy enough to have access to certain items.
Perhaps it is an unreasonable fear stemming from the idea that no one should have the technical edge on anyone else. Or perhaps it is something more mundane like political tribalism; my man / woman cannot be wrong because they are my man / woman, and of course they know what is best. It is a dangerous game seeing how it is not us common chickens, but the pigs who run Manor Farm.

That would be helpful if everyone ere acting in good faith.
Unfortunately, the mislabeling and misidentification is not a result of error or even ignorance.
It is, IMO, deliberate; a willful attempt to deceive the populace.
