Maduro: Chavez body to be permanently displayedHugo Chavez's body will be permanently displayed in a special tomb, Venezuela's Vice President, Nicolas Maduro, announced Thursday on state television. Maduro said the official state funeral will begin tomorrow at 10:30 ET. Some 30 heads of state along with delegations from 50 countries are expected to attend. Following the ceremony, Chavez's body will lie in state for seven additional days, so that more people can see it. Maduro, now the interim president, also announced that Chavez's body will be preserved in the same manner as that of Russia's Vladimir Lenin or China's Mao Zedong, so "he will always be with the people." Visitors will be able to view Chavez's body in a special tomb now under construction in the mountains where the former leader launched his revolution. He again called for peace and calm and thanked the public for respecting the solemnity of this occasion. Chavez, the socialist leader who ran Venezuela for 14 years, lost his two-year battle with cancer Tuesday. His cancer was first detected in his pelvic region in 2011. He was 58. worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/07/17226935-maduro-chavez-body-to-be-permanently-displayed?liteI could say something crass about his being stuffed, but I won't.

Socialist and communist always need heroes. It is one of many way to keep the country together and show the world how great they are even after their dead.

To glorify him and to let people worship him. They do not want people to forget him and his accomplishments.

What accomplishments? He ran that country into the ground. Unemployment skyrocketed and crime increased to world high levels.
His only "accomplishment" was making an ass out of himself when bashing the US.

Why are some leaders' corpses preserved? The body of Venezuela's Hugo Chavez is to be embalmed and put on display permanently at a military museum. How do you preserve a body indefinitely, and why is it done? The body of Hugo Chavez is to be exhibited in glass casket in a newly converted museum of the revolution near the presidential palace where he ruled for 14 years, according to Venezuela's acting leader Nicolas Maduro. Maduro said Chavez would be following in the footsteps of other embalmed leaders, Ho Chi Minh, Lenin and Mao Zedong. www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21713301

Maduro said Chavez would be following in the footsteps of other embalmed leaders, Ho Chi Minh, Lenin and Mao Zedong. www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21713301After a while even the preserved body becomes nothing more than an object of curiosity, that's about all the body of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin has become. And the efforts needed to keep the body presentable become greater and greater and more expensive as time goes on. The Russians found that out, they have to pull old Vlad out of his display case periodically to touch him up and the work becomes more and more complex each time. Last time they decanted him (sometime in the 1990s as I recall) there was talk about just cremating and stuffing him into a nich in the Kremlin wall and be done with it. I predict that within 10 years or so Hugo will become so moldy and decayed that they'll quietly close the display and bury him.
