That's the whole point. Now - offer them citizenship, a job, money, and a future - they'd certainly take it. Military or not. Plenty of immigrants that enter the service with the intention of earning US citizenship. Pay them, feed them, house them, and promise them citizenship - that's called 'enfranchisement'. That's how you earn loyalty and develop a responsible element of society. Not by punishing them. Nowhere did I say 'force' - I said an ultimatum, which still requires choice. You either 'do' or you 'don't'. So - illegals either join the service or face deportation and/or jail time. Study history - plenty of examples of enfranchisement. |

My proposal: Fuck 'em. Send them home. I second that, Chris, People who are not citizens of our country can already serve in the military and put that towards obtaining citizenship. You'll find we have probably many Mexicans in the Army already as well as a ton of Fillopino's in the Navy. |

Unless they are criminals, there is no reason to boot them out the country. Several million people - whether in the service, or any form of labor - is a vast pool of unskilled labor necessary for the functionings of this country.
I rather have foriegners who are motivated enough to traverse the desert in the first place to come here to work the laborous jobs than complacent Americans who would refuse to do so.
Now if you can come up with a solution other than "fuck 'em" - I'd like to hear it.
