To me it sounds like the Aircrew candidates may get additional training in preperation for the advanced training. Unlike the Army, every one goes through basic and all advanced training takes place once you complete basic. It's a different system so, I can't really help you out here other then generic advise.
When do you start?

No navy all teh way, i love swimming and the water too much. Stationed at Great Lakes for training soon. Unless you are joining air-sea rescue, I wouldn't plan on doing much swimming. The whole point of ships is so that you don't have to swim. So, it's Brie, not Blaise, huh? Hmmmm...well, Howdy again, stranger.

Sailor, I know you're right. In the mid 1960s I was transferred to Detroit. I got there a few years after the big race war . The city was always in a mess and the murder rate was incredible. Going to Chicago for a weekend was always a treat for me in the era, and a special gift having lunch in one of a couple of Chicago's South side Italian restaurant. No one was ever hurt there in the era; that is to say unless the Italians hurt someone.

When I was stationed at the Lakes in the late 70's we stayed away from the south side for the most part, too damned rough because of the trouble spilling out of the projects there like Cabrini Green.
Downtown was good though, lots of interesting places to take the family.
