And for yours. <return salute> There's a deeper meaning. I absolutely understand... I'm just "saying..."

101, Bounce and Far Rider (among others) - along the same lines, ya'll might not know (or care...or even care to know) but I have a tremendous amount of respect for you all. I am extremely grateful for the sacrifices that you all made so that I can enjoy the freedoms that I have today. Without people like yourselves, this amazing country of ours would not be where it is today. I might not say it often enough (or at all), but I greatly admire all of you. No amount of political arguments (or personal arguments) will ever change my opinion of you guys. And that goes for anyone who has ever put on the uniform.
With all of that said.....let's get back to beating the shit outta each other....

"Or are you now going to bad-mouth Ayn Rand, basically the most important Libertarian to have ever lived?" Never have a hero, FF. It diminishes you. I only have a few heroes - other than the natural one of Jesus, I think Cato the Younger is my favorite hero. If you study his life and realize why I love him so much, you can probably understand me a lot better.

That's the great thing about personal integrity - the only person who's opinion counts is your own. What other people think of my Integrity I could care less because I hold myself to the highest of standards. I never excuse myself, as Henry Ward Beecher once said.
I used to think that way. I used to be a very strong Utilitarian. Until I realized that the "greater good" is still evil and therefore I can't support it. I just can't bring myself to vote Republican, Democratic or anything else. Although I HATE Democrats, I just can't support any political party that I have strong disagreements with. I'm sorry, I just can't. I won't.
Mike, the only reason I bring that up is because you used to question my being a Libertarian. Honestly, I don't care what political party you align yourself with - in fact, I don't want you marching lock-step with me. I don't want you marching lock-step with ANYONE. If that's what you want, so be it. Do whatever you think is right. But I doubt that advocating something you feel is wrong is what you truly believe.
I felt the same way in 2004 and so I voted for Bush. I felt that Kerry would fuck up Iraq and that was worth me voting Republican.
I don't feel that way anymore. Republicans have done more to destroy the economy these past few years than anyone else. Sure, Democrats would fuck it up more. But I can't bring myself to support a corrupt organization just because they are the less of two evils. I have to vote my conscience, even if it means I will ultimately have no say in the government whatsoever. It's better than betraying my beliefs for the Republicans.

With all of that said.....let's get back to beating the shit outta each other.... I don't talk about it much because after all, it was 30 years ago, and I didn't do much except fix the shit that hot dogs like Bounce broke. Not being a geopolitical expert at the time like the assholes over at THC, I knew there were people who supported the war - they had their reasons and I was okay with that. There were people who didn't support the war - they had their reasons and I was okay with that, too. To a certain extent one of the ways you get things things done is by simply concentrating on your job and doing it, which is what I did. What I wasn't prepared for was finding out how the war had wiped out a fair part of my graduating class and hearing the kind of shit those assholes on the left were saying about us after that fucking traitor Benedict Arnold Kerry came back and started with his bullshit. (And that asshole had the fucking nerve to ask us to elect his bitch ass to be president!) Don't listen to assholes like Lepi, it really happened. Those hateful sons of bitches really did spit on our guys and say the most vile lies about them, and they're still around, trying to relive what they think are their glory days. We have to see the president through his second term to keep those punks from robbing our guys in Iraq/Afghanistan of their rightful victory. It's not negotiable.
