THC? Are you telling me the History Channel has opened up its community boards again? **** Thanks for your compliment, Socialcaesar - giving me the opportunity to thank you again for the great fine arts thread you started here. And to add that I've rechecked the Barnes Foundation site for updates on the collection, and the little Titian shepherd painting we discussed in your thread is still not included. Don't know if it's because they plan to keep it at the old Barnes for the art teaching program or if it's been sold to fund the move to Philadelphia. As for the notation "THC" besides the names of some of the other team sponsors in this thread, it means they were also sponsors when the thread was maintained on the old THC boards. Which, alas, are gone forever. But, if dumbed down TV remains your guilty pleasure, you can join the owner's still operative A&E network boards: community.aetv.com/service/displayHomePageExperience.kickAction?page=Homepage&as=119137As for THC, the parts of the site where you can view the members' profiles are still there. And, if you want to add to the views of other members so as to pound HIST_Karen's profile further down from the "most popular" poster position - she started in first place, feel free to join the fun. What more appropriate way to thank them for summarily and ungraciously evicting the many fine people who'd made the THC boards a home for many years? ;D Here's the link: media.community.history.com/service/searchEverything.kickAction?as=144202&mediaType=user&sortType=popular&includeUser=on&d-7095067-p=1And finally, a big hi and a hi five to DD whose A's beat the Mariners in Japan today to tie their first series of the regular season 1-1. A great evening and weekend ahead to you and all, Arethusa

All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! Today marks the complete return of "real" MLB baseball after DD's A's tied their season opening series with Seattle in Japan last week. There are two home openers on the schedule for today between 101's Tigers vs. Boston and Rem16's Cubs vs. the Nats. And three of our teams are playing away: the Phillies at Pittsburgh, Socialcaesar's Blue Jays in Cleveland and Marie's Red Sox in Detroit. Tomorrow DD's A's will return to their series against the Sailors in their home opener in Oakland, TC's Rays will face off against the Yankees in Tampa, SFV's Giants will play the Snakes in Phoenix, and Littlewheels' Rockies will play the Astros in Houston. I am posting the schedules for our teams through Monday, but the scores will have to wait because the computers at work are being shut down so the system can go solar in part. Not sure when I'll be back, hopefully before Easter weekend ends. But, with the MLB Extra Innings package just installed for me to watch MLB all season, I can tell you where I definitely will be for the next few days - fully ensconced in my living room watching the Yankees play against TC's Rays and catching the games of the Phillies and some of our other teams when I can. Without further adieu, thus begins our season with the schedules for the upcoming games of our sponsored teams in alphabetical order: DD's Oakland Athletics: and Brandon McCarthy will meet the Seattle Sailors and King Felix Hernandez tomorrow night in their home opener at 10:05 p.m., EDT. On Saturday night at 9:05 p.m., EDT, the A's and Billy Beane rescue, Bartolo Colon, will take on the Mariners and Jason Vargas. Socialcaesar's Toronto Blue Jays: and Ricky Romero are beginning their regular season today with an away series versus the Tribe, with Justin Masterson as their starter at 3:05 p.m., EDT. Tomorrow, Toronto will be off to prepare for a continuation of that series on Saturday at 1:05 p.m., EDT, with Brandon Morrow on the hill for the Blue Jays and Ubaldo "the Gutless Plunker" Jimenez starting for Cleveland. On Easter Sunday at 1:05 p.m., EDT, Joel Carrero and Toronto will face off against the Tribe and Derek Lowe (formerly of the Braves). The Blue Jays' home opener is on Monday, April 9th, beginning at 7:07 p.m., with Henderson Alvarez starting for Toronto against Felix Doubront of the Boston Red Sox. Tomorrow, the Cubbies will be off to rest in between their second game against the Nats set for 1:05 p.m., EDT, on Saturday with Matt Garza and Gio Gonzalez on the hill, respectively. All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! As noted, the 162 game schedule for all of our teams has begun, with only 161 more to play! Will there be five teams each in the playoffs this year or more? Will the Astros become an AL West team? But, let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's only April 7th. Winners of Thursday's games were the Blue Jays over the Tribe in the Marathon noted by Socialcaesar, the Phillies over the Buccos, and 101's Tigers over Marie's Red Sox. But, Rem16's Cubs were swatted by the Gnats. Just a side note, I sent Easter greetings to Marie, a former HBO poster and THC member, this morning with an invitation and link to join us here in hopes she will do that, and soon. In yesterday's action, TC's Rays won in a squeaker over the Yanks and LW's Rockies pounded Houston. Losses were sustainded by DD's A's to Seattle, SFV's G-Men to the Snakes, and the Yankees to the watergoing Stingers. Without further adieu, here are the scores and upcoming schedules of our sponsored teams in alphabetical order: DD's Oakland Athletics: were sunk by the Sailors in their home opener last night, 3-7. On Easter Sunday, Oakland will be off to prepare for a homestand starting on Monday, April 9th at 10:05 p.m., EDT, versus the KC Royals with Tommy Milone and Luis Mendoza, respectively, on the hill. The A's and Graham Godfrey will meet the Royals and Danny Duffy on Tuesday, April 10th at 10:05 p.m., EDT. Socialcaesar's Toronto Blue Jays: hammered Cleveland, 7-5, Thursday in 16 - the longest opening day game in MLB history. Wow, you're putting a lot of work into this. Appreciate it, but still don't think we'll have much of a year in Oak town. -DD **** Thank you, DD! I'm used to it though - have been putting this thread together since starting it during my days as an HBO poster 6 years ago. Even with the 5 a.m. mornings assembling the info and posting it for seven months, it's a labor of love that helps me to keep up with what's happening in MLB generally and with my Yankees. Besides offering some enjoyment and quick updates to those of us who are as fanatic about their favorite MLB teams as we are! Speaking of your team, I've got great hopes for Billy Beane's gambling to have good outcomes this year - you did see that Yoenis Cespedes won that game in Japan, right? And already the hypesters are hard at work - here's one projecting he'll be the AL's 2012 Rookie of the Year! bleacherreport.com/articles/1135841-oakland-athletics-2012-yoenis-cespedes-will-win-al-rookie-of-the-yearAnd you can count on Bartolo Colon making a good effort on the hill for you like he did for the Yankees as long as he stays healthy. Take care and good luck tonight - I'll be channel surfing around the same time while the Yanks are playing to see how Colon is doing against "EeeeeeeeeeeecheeeeeeerO" Suzuki and the Mariners. Thanks again, and enjoy your Easter that the A's are taking off! ;D Arethusa

All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! Congrats to the winners of yesterday's games: Socialcaesar's Blue Jays over the Tribe, 101's Tigers over Marie's Red Sox and TC's Rays over the Yankees. All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! An objective view of the performance of 7 of our ten teams in their opening series is that it was pretty dismal. Subjectively, as would be expressed in today's version of the popular parlance, it sucked. Time was that Spring Training was intended to pound players back into shape after five months of off-season sloth. These days, the month before the regular season smacks more of "Survivor", with players on the brink of elimination auditioning for the Billy Beane stakes, and young kids from the farm system attempting to prove they've got enough stuff to keep them from being voted off the island. And, with the Yankees' big name players being swept by the buff and ready-to-play Rays, it showed. Congrats to yesterday's other winners: 101's Tigers, who swept the Red Sox in three games at home and Rem16's Cubbies beating the Nats to avoid a three game sweep at home. Others, besides Yankees' fans, whose teams fared less well in their first series of the season were LW's Rockies being grounded down by the Astros to lose that away series 1-2; SFV's Giants being swept in three games in Phoenix by the Snakes; the Phillies being dragooned by the Buccos to lose that series in Pgh, 1-2; and Socialcaesar's Blue Jays losing to Cleveland, but winning that away series, 2-1, nonetheless. DD's Athletics had the inimitable foresight to take Easter Sunday off after losing their series to the Mariners 1-3, hopefully to spend it running or lifting some weights. Without further adieu, here are the scores and upcoming schedules of our sponsored teams in alphabetical order: DD's Oakland Athletics: were off yesterday to prepare for a homestand starting tonight at 10:05 p.m., EDT, versus the KC Royals with Tommy Milone and Luis Mendoza, respectively, on the hill. The A's and Graham Godfrey will meet the Royals and Danny Duffy tomorrow night at 10:05 p.m., EDT. On Wednesday afternoon, April 11th, Oakland and Brandon McCarthy will attempt to unscepter the Royals and Bruce Chen in a joust set to get underway at 3:35 p.m., EDT. The A's are off again on Thursday, April 12th, and will resume play on Friday night, April 13th, with an away series versus Seattle (what? again?!) featuring Bartolo Colon and King Felix Hernandez, respectively, on the hill in a game set to begin at 10:10 p.m., EDT. On Saturday night, April 14th, beginning at 9:10 p.m., EDT, Oakand and Tommy Milone will attempt to sink the Sailors and Hector Noesi (the young Yankees' phenom who was rudely traded to make room for a starting roster that, to date, has lost all three of this season's games). Socialcaesar's Toronto Blue Jays: lost to Cleveland, 4-3, yesterday, but won this three game away series, 2-1, anyway. The Blue Jays' home opener is tonight beginning at 7:07 p.m., EDT, with Henderson Alvarez starting for Toronto against Felix Doubront of the Boston Red Sox. Tomorrow night, the Blue Jays and Kyle Drabeck will play against Beantown and Daniel Bard in a game scheduled to start at 7:07 p.m., EDT. Toronto and Ricky Romero will take on Beantown and Jon Lester on Wednesday afternoon, April 11th, at 12:37 p.m., EDT. On Thursday, April 12th, Toronto will be off to prepare for a weekend homestand against the Baltimore Zeros beginning on Friday night, April 13th, at 7:07 p.m., EDT, featuring Brandon Morrow and Tommy Hunter, respectively, starting for the teams. Rem16's Chicago Cubs: gnashed the Gnats, 4-3, yesterday to avoid being swept in this three game homestand. Tonight, the Cubbies and Chris Volstad will commence a series against the Milwaukee Brewers and Shaun Marcum beginning at 7:00 p.m., EDT on ESPN. The Cubs and Paul Maholm will take on the Brewskis and Chris Narveson tomorrow night beginning at 8:05 p.m., EDT. On Wednesday afternoon, April 11th, the Cubs and Ryan Dempster will face off against Milwaukee and Yovanni Gallardo in a game scheduled to get underway at 2:20 p.m., EDT. The Cubs and Matt Garza will take on the Brewers and Zack Greinke on Thursday afternoon, April 12th, in a game set to start at 2:20 p.m., EDT. SFV's San Francisco Giants: were swept in three late yesterday after being edged by the Snakes in Phoenix, 7-6. SF and Barry Zito will inaugurate an away series against Littlewheels' Colorado Rockies and Jhoulys Chacin this afternoon beginning at 4:10 p.m., EDT. The Giants will be off tomorrow and will resume their series versus Colorado, with Tim Lincecum and Jeremy Guthrie, respectively starting for the teams, on Wednesday night, April 11th, at 8:40 p.m., EDT. On Thursday afternoon, April 12th, SF and Madison Bumgarner with play against the Mountainmen and Jamie Moyer in a game set to start at 3:10 p.m., EDT. The G-Men and Matt Cain will initiate a weekend homestand against the Pittsburgh Pirates - with James McDonald on the hill - on Friday afternoon, April 13th, in a game set to start at 4:35 p.m., EDT. The Philadelphia Phillies: were re-edged by the Pirates, 5-4, in Pittsburgh yesterday to lose this PA Turnpike series, 1-2. The Phillies and Cole Hamels will celebrate their home opener this afternoon beginning at 1:05 p.m., EDT, versus the newly named Miami Marlins with Anibal Sanchez on the hill, then will be off tomorrow to rest their rusty bones after the fishing trip. On Wednesday night, April 11th, beginning at 7:00 p.m., EDT, the Phillies and Roy Halladay (pitching change) will attempt to net the Fish and Josh Johnson on ESPN. On Friday night, April 13th, the Phils and Cliff Lee will begin a weekend homestand against the Mets - with R.A. Dickey on the hill - in a game scheduled to get underway at 7:05 p.m., EDT. Tankcommander's (TC's) Tampa Bay Rays: gave the Yanks a trip to Florida to remember by blanking them, 3-0, yesterday and sweeping the team in this three game homestand. TB is off today to prepare for an away series against 101's Tigers with Matt Moore and Rick Porcello, respectively, starting for the teams beginning at 1:05 p.m., EDT, tomorrow afternoon. All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! Monday was a really good day for us with double the number of our teams winning, considering that two winners from Sunday were off yesterday. ;D The bad news is two of our teams had to lose to those that were victorious, but with ten teams to cover this year, six of which play in the AL, that will happen a bit more frequently in 2012. Congrats to yesterday's winners: Marie's Red Sox over Socialcaesar's Blue Jays in Toronto; SFV's G-Men over LW's Rockies in Denver; the Yankees over the Zeroes in B-More; and DD's Athletics over the KC Royals in Oakland. Other teams that fared less well in the first games of their second series of the season were the Phillies who lost their home opener to the Fish and Rem16's Cubs who were caged by the Brewskis in Chitown. 101's Tigers and TC's Rays had yesterday off after respectively cleaning up their series against Boston and the Yankees and will play a sweep-off game against each other this afternoon at 1:05 p.m., EDT, in Detroit. A win in the bottom of the 12th thanks to two straight hit by pitches. Yahoo says it's the first time in 46 years it's happened.
Hey, I'll take what we can get. The A's are 3-4, not a great start, but not a horrific start either. I'm still curious as to what Manny Ramirez will bring to the table when he's healthy and has served his suspension. My guess is it won't be much, but hope springs eternal.
