Yesterday was a good day for 6 of our teams with a whole lotta blanking going on with the scores: the Yankees shut out the Angels in Yankee Stadium; DD's A's blanked the Sailors in Seattle; and SFV's G-Men bageled the Buccos in San Francisco.

Other of our teams scoring victories on "Friday the 13th" were: Marie's Red Sox over TC's Rays in Beantown; LW's Rockies over the Snakes in Denver; and Rem16's Cubbies over the defending WS Champion Cards in St. Louis.

Additional team losses were sustained by Socialcaesar's Blue Jays to the O's in Toronto; 101's Tigers to the Chisox in Chitown; and the Phillies to the Mets in Philly.

Other MLB news from yesterday is that A-Rod hit his 630th home run to tie him with former Mariners' teammate, Ken Griffey, Jr., in fifth place on the all time list.

Today marks the 65th anniversary of the date upon which Jackie Robinson broke the color line in MLB, an event that will be celebrated in the major leagues during their games today.

And, those who have been paying attention to the info available at ESPN's Team Standings link posted further below, might be saying to yourselves, "welcome to the new kids on the block in 2012!"

It seems that, except for the Texas Rangers, the big contenders during recent years have been taking a back seat in today's standings to some teams nobody ever expected to surpass the next to the last teams in their own divisions for years.

Yankees fans of long standing will smile to learn that Don "Donny Baseball" Mattingly's L.A. Dodgers, at 8-1, have the best record in baseball as we speak.

And Phillies fans who'd never thought they'd see the day, even with Jayson Werth's defection, are likely shocked that the lowly Washington Nationals are leading the NL East at 7-2.

Most notably, to my mind, however, is the sight of the Baltimore Orioles on that list leading the AL East, albeit not commandingly. ;D

Moving along, yesterday was a good day for only 3 of our teams: SFV's Giants beat the Buccos to win that homestand, 2-0, and go for a sweep in this afternoon's game; Marie's Red Sox pummeled TC's Rays to lead that 4 game homestand at 2-0; and LW's Rockies won their homestand against the Snakes, 2-0, and will go for a sweep later today.

Other losses by our teams were sustained by DD's A's to the Mariners to tie this away series at 1-1; Socialcaesar's Blue Jays to the O's to lose this homestand, 0-2, necessitating the avoidance of a sweep in this afternoon's game; Rem16's Cubs to the Cards, tying this away series at 1-1; the Phillies to the Mets to lose this homestand, 0-2, and requiring the avoidance of a sweep this afternoon; 101's Tigers to the Chisox to lose this 3 game away series, 0-2, and necessitating the avoidance of a sweep in this afternoon's game; and the Yankees to the Angels at "The Stadium" to tie this series at 1 game apiece.

And, yes - the first of this year's series between the Yanks and Boston is this weekend - Friday afternoon at 3, Saturday at 4 and on Sunday night at 8, with the last being the one you'll be able to watch on ESPN.

I'll be waving at you and your family from the nosebleed section of the bleachers - though it seems a bank robbery might be necessary even to be able to buy a ticket for up there these days!

It sure is, Fader!

Some of the major league teams, like the Reds, have constructed parks for minor league games with great amenities and cheaper tickets that have caught on with the fans as a place to bring their kids.

But that strikes me as sad because, even though they get to see rehabbing big names and up and coming stars playing in the games, it's still the cheap seats no matter what anyone says.

Although with rehabbing celebs and stars on their way down so constantly in the headlines, it feels like we've all been relegated to the cheap seats these days.

In addition, yesterday's five winners of our ten teams were: Socialcaesar's Blue Jays over KC to sweep that 4 game away series, 4-0; SFV's Giants over the Mets not once, but twice in yesterday's double header to win that 4 game away series, 3-1; Rem16's Cubs over the reigning World Champion St. Louis Cardinals to lead that 3 game homestand, 1-0; and the Yankees over Texas and Fader's Red Sox over the Twins to lead those 3 game away series, 1-0.

Losses sustained yesterday by other of our teams included: the Phillies to the Snakes to fall behind 0-1 in that 3 game away series; and DD's A's to the Chisox to fall behind 0-1 in that 3 game homestand.
