A series win against the Red Sox in Boston. Hey, even if the season is a wash, at least I got that little nugget. -DD **** Yes, indeed, DD! Plus a pleasant day off to take a trip to sunny Florida to take on TC's Rays. This season is turning into a roller coaster ride for the AL in every sense of the word. Right now, the Rays at 18-8 have the best record in MLB, ahead of Texas and the LA Dodgers at 17-8 each. And now, the Yanks' legendary closer, Mo Rivera, has likely been consigned to the MLB history books with a torn ACL from cadging fly balls in practice yesterday. Here's the link to that report from ESPN.com: espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/7888133/mariano-rivera-new-york-yankees-torn-aclOnly "The Shadow" knows at this point how much of the team's "mojo" will go with Mo or how well all the other teams will do against the Yanks because of it. Good luck to your A's against the Rays this weekend because they will gain an extra shot of mojo and confidence by beating that team! Arethusa

Thanks, All kidding aside about how much i do hate the Yankees, sorry to hear Mariano Rivera devastating injury. A great career possibly ended by a freak accident. A shame. -DD ***** Thanks, DD. It was surely a boost to the team's morale for Mo to announce in an interview yesterday that, after talking with his doctors, it's possible he could return by the end of the season. I didn't know his clubhouse nickname is "GOAT" for "Greatest Of All Time" closers. An accolade that won't be debated by too many people at all. Here's the link for a report from that interview from Wallace Matthews at ESPN.com: espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/7891534/closer-mariano-rivera-new-york-yankees-says-return-knee-injuryGood luck for your A's against the Rays this weekend! All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! If this baseball season had a meme, it would be the "inevitability of change." JFK once said, "the only certain thing in politics is the inevitability of defeat". But he uttered these words in a world ordered by sexism and racism; when the crazy people we've known and loved were locked up with no access to computers; when pity parties were the province of dateless girls on Saturday nights and not the national zeitgeist; and before a bullet and not a ballot had decided his and the nation's future. And before "bounty hunting" NFL players decided the course of a team's season. So far, except for steroids affecting the courses of individual players' careers, MLB - by means of profit sharing, moneyball and draft outcomes - has managed to effect change primarily in which teams are up one season and down a few seasons later. And so it should be. Whether or not the formerly moribund teams that are playing lights out baseball this year will still be at the top at the end of the season, however, still remains to be seen. With all that in mind, two of our ten teams had a good Saturday and eight did not. Winners of yesterday's games were: DD's A's over TC's Rays to tie this three game away series at 1-1 and go for a win today; and SFV's Giants over Milwaukee to tie this three game homestand at 1-1 and go for a win today. Losses sustained by our other teams were: Socialcaesar's Blue Jays to the Angels, but still leading this 4 game away series, 2-1, and able to win it in today's game; Fader's Red Sox to the O's and LW's Rockies to the Braves to lose their three game homestands, 0-2, and needing to avoid sweeps today; the Phillies to the Nats to lose that three game away series, 0-2, and needing to avoid being swept today; Rem16's Cubs to the Dodgers and 101's Tigers to the Chisox to tie their three game homestands at 1-1 and go for wins today; and the Yankees to KC to fall behind, 1-2, in this 4 game away series and needing to tie it today. Without further adieu and, in alphabetical order, here are the scores and upcoming schedules of our sponsored teams: DD's Oakland Athletics (now 14-14): muscled TB, 4-3, last night to tie this 3 game away series at 1-1. All Hail YF's Threadsters - Team Sponsors, Posters and Readers Alike! Bryce Harper's Hissy Fit.For those of you who've been paying attention, and for those of you who have not, the Washington Nationals have debuted their starter, Stephen Strasburg's, successor as MLB wunderkind in one Bryce Harper in LF, a 19 year old phenom with talent to burn, or so it's been said. Harper made news last Sunday for being plunked by Cole Hamels, an aging pitching wunderkind still in the employ of the Philadelphia Phillies - an act that resulted in a 5 game suspension when Hamels girlishly spouted afterward that he had done so intentionally. An act of jealous raging perhaps - committed in a late-breaking realization that a wunderkind's status runs mercilessly short. Last night, Harper himself suffered a diva-ish meltdown after going 0 for 5 and enduring 3 SO's in the Nats' 7-3 win over the Reds. After one of the latter, he went back to the dugout, slammed a wall and an angry bat retaliated by smashing Harper in the face. And yes, stitches were needed, but he remained in the game. Harper's talent, while said to be comparable to Derek Jeter's at that age, clearly has yet to be harnessed to the steady, rock-solid temperament that has helped Jeter go the distance and become one of the greatest players in the game. Problem for Harper and other potential teenaged flashes in the pan is that Derek Jeter was made that way. In Kipling's poem, "If", there's a classic line etched in brass at the Wimbledon Lawn and Tennis Club: If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same. . .Clearly, someone who cares about Bryce Harper needs to have a heart to heart with the kid to convey that noble message if Harper wants his moniker to someday be included with those of the all time greats. And "If" he doesn't want to end his career playing for a perennial loser like Pittsburgh where former phenom, A.J. Burnett's, meltdowns with the Yankees landed him this year. Link to Harper Meltdown report from ESPN.com: scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=320511117As for what happened yesterday with our ten YF's Thread teams, four had a good result and six did not. Winners of yesterday's games were: the Yankees over Seattle to lead that 3 game homestand, 1-0, and go for a win today; the Phillies over the Padres to lead that 3 game homestand, 1-0, and go for a win tonight; Fader's Red Sox over the Tribe to tie that 4 game homestand at 1-1 and go for the lead tonight; and DD's A's over 101's Tigers to tie that 4 game homestand at 1-1 and go for the lead tonight.
