Big news in MLB today is that Jeff Niemann, an ace starter for TC's Rays, broke his right leg when struck by a liner in last night's game versus Socialcaesar's Blue Jays and will be out reportedly for a couple of months.

Niemann is still listed on ESPN's schedule as taking the mound this Saturday in Interleague play against Atlanta, but that designation will undoubtedly change before then.

TC's Rays over Socialcaesar's Blue Jays to lead that 2 game away series, 1-0, and go for a sweep tonight;

Fader's Red Sox over Seattle to lead that 2 game homestand, 1-0, and go for a sweep today; and

the Phillies over the Astros to lead that 2 game homestand, 1-0, and go for a sweep today.


The only other loss suffered yesterday by other of our teams was: 101's Tigers to the White Sox to fall behind, 0-1, in this 2 game away series and needing to avoid being swept today.

Big news in MLB today is that the Blue Jays' Brett Lawrie's meltdown against an Ump who called a strike when Lawrie had decided he'd earned a walk has earned him a four game suspension. Not only did Lawrie suffer an attack of the vapours at the time, but threw his helmet that, oh drears! hit the Ump.

Lawrie does not regret violating the rule against arguing balls and strikes, only that his helmet took a bad bounce and actually hit the Ump when thrown in his direction, thus deflecting the blame to the maintenance crew and away from Lawrie's infantile narcissism.

The big news in MLB is the rumor floating around that the Steinbrenner Brats are contemplating cashing in on their late father's hard work by selling the team, albeit with the rumors being predictably denied as we speak.

I'm shocked! Shocked!

Not.

From the beginning of their ascendancy to leadership of this organization, the Brats have struck me as lazy, disinterested, and way outta their league as owners of one of MLB's perennially contending teams, starting with their grubby mishandling of ex-Skipper, Joe Torre's, departure.

Hopefully, any potential new buyer would not have made the egregious error of passing on Yu Darvish for the flailing mediocrity, Hiroki Kuroda.

Whatever happens, and if what happens results in a period of chaos, this team will be back.

The Steinbrenners won only 7 World Series with the Yankees with 20 being won before they ever appeared on the scene.

Still, there's time and the A's have shown their roster to already be overachieving early in the year. Now comes the test to see if they can bounce back from a number of losses, and against the best opponants MLB can throw at them.

Good Morning, DD!

I had this conversation with my boss the other day about the Yankees and the Phillies getting a run of wins, followed by a string of losses and never seeming to pick up any momentum.

Our consensus was that there are two seasons in MLB: the one before the All Star Break and the one following it.

I believe that teams that can keep a good solid .500 record until the break will be in a good position to become the major competitors at the end of the season.

All that being said, IMO, your Athletics are doing fine now. If they can hold on with their current record, they'll be set for showing what they're really made of when heading into the home stretch.
