I saw 300 last night. If you've seen the previews than you probably already know that there isn't much historical fact taken into concept here, but all the same it was a great movie.
The battle scenes and the rallying calls were done to perfection. It is sooo on my must buy list when it gets to DVD.

70 million on opening weekend. I see I wasn't the only one who liked it.

It got an "A" rating by the St. Petersburg Times critic. I'll try to get out and see it.

..... the iranians are upset about 300 because it depicts Persians in a less than civil light. Last time I checked, hollywood didn't do the bidding of Washington, but these wackos are shouting that very thing. Smoke screen anyone? seattlepi.nwsource.com/movies/307278_iranians30015.html

If it pisses the Iranians off it can't be all bad,
I'll put it on my list.

We don't have a movie theater in our town. The nearest one is a mega-multiplex 15 mles away.
Not big on crowds either, and people behave rudely in movie theaters these days.

Well, I saw it this afternoon...IMHO it wasn't all that and a bag of chips. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Sci-Fi/Fantasy but it wasn't that great. The acting was mediocre and all the BS about the Spartans society being free and fighting for their liberty...the whole idea is ludicrous. I liked Troy better, and the LOTR series much more.

I finally saw it.
Great piece of filmmaking, IMO, despite it's numerous libeties with history.
I will buy the DVD.
Well done!

It's entertaining, but it's history is wrong, its themes shallow, and the acting a series of grunts and cliches.

Yeah, AP
But entertainment is what I want from a film.
But shallow themes? Good vs Evil? Courage and honor? Intrigue and betrayal?
It's classic Greek theatre, the comic book version, of course, but classic all the same.

If we're going to indulge in propaganda, which even the film-maker admits it to be, then we ought to indulge in it fully. If not, then let us watch quality films worthy of our time.
